yeah, i think an 18-20t is better but your call to experiment

Currently I have been running a 15 tooth. Haven’t tried the 16 yet but I don’t like arrma a stock pinions since they seem to strip or break on me. I am planning on buying a 16 soon to try before it gets too hot. I only use tekno pinions now after breaking 4 stock pinions. Lol.

17t is perfect (best of 67.3mph on backflips) but requires a motor fan above 50*F

If I am understanding correctly, 12 is stock, 16 is the unreccomended speed gear it comes with...so I might buy a 14 Tekno gear to see what happens.

i run 14. apparently that's a good middle ground and won't cause overheatting issues even if you drive like a maniac, which i do.

I've only run the stock 12t on 6s, and that's plenty of torque for short quick bursts, even at mid punch. Higher top speed with a Outcast/Notorious seems wasted, as it is such a short wheelbase, I figure it would get squirrelly if it went any faster. More bottom end for air control would be ideal. Jmo.

Somebody should make a chart doing the math- 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, etc...

Here is what I get with the following variables:

LiPo:6S
Motor Kv:2050
Spur: 50t
Diff pinion: 10t
Diff ring gear: 43t
Tire diameter (Backflips): 172mm

Pinion/Top Speed

10t: 42.31
11t: 46.54
12t: 50.77
13t: 55
14t: 59.23
15t: 63.46
16t: 67.69
17t: 71.92
18t: 76.15
19t: 80.28
20t: 84.61

That's using the rc calculator, right? Factor in your abundance of aluminum upgrades, and knock those down by 20%

Yes - but I think it's pretty close. Take off 5 mph for drag and whatnot. I don't understand why the Outcast/Notorious comes with pinions 4t apart. It's like you can go sort of slow or super fast.

Before I put the torch to my truck, is everybody running the 16t pinion?
Don’t bother unless u want 5-10 mph more. To be honest just running 6 s is enough with the stock pinions. Use the extra one they give you. Outcast is 15t 57-62mph. Talion gets the 17t to go 70 mph. I don’t see the need for even the 6 s ,but throttle control is better the higher your pinion is. Rich duperbash says 16t on 6 s and 20t on 3 or 4s just to achieve the same top end wheel rotation in the air.

I only run 4S in my outcast and with trencher 3.8 tires with the 15T, I overheat if I run in grass a lot. It's fine at the skate park though. I have the stock fan on the esc and a HW 40mm on the motor.

My buddy had the v2 talion with the same esc/motor and tires as me, he ran 6S and a 15T. He would overheat at the skate park after about 10 minutes. Then he'd watch me while it cooled a while and start back up as I neared the end of a 22 minute run. Then I'd swap out my packs and go again, by then he was waiting for it to cool again. He ran the stock esc fan and the yeah racing dual motor fans.

@bicketybam I challenge you to run the 20T @ 84mph in an Outcast/Notorious and not break something...??????

Me too! Figured I'd put this in my new Notorious before I ran it.. Along with all the other hop ups I'm doing.
