Only if a rock got wedged it there while running. Under normal operation, no. Not normal.

I have a center driveshaft here ready to drop in because I told product support the plastic had shredded at the rear end of the driveshaft. But it's still working so it's still in the truck. Apparently the only damage we had was to the outer plastic. It does look like it was caused by rocks.

I had the same thing happen to me and I believe it was caused from a rock getting stuck between the driveshaft and motor. Make sure to check for rocks getting stuck, I had a center driveshaft get cut in half due to a rock getting stuck in there. It only took about 5 minutes for it to happen.

I had 2 Senton BLXs both have the exact same issue after running in gravel 1 time! Rock between motor and driveshaft.

Any ideas on a solution to avoid this?

Running in gravel sucks. If you have to do it, get a dusty motors cover
