Guessing it's a Mega. Sounds about normal. As others mentioned, get a 2S lipo. Same speed, longer run time. But, you need another charger too.
My 7 yr old grandson has the Granite Mega. The rest of us converted our Megas to brushless, so he has 4 or 5 batteries. Just plug another in and he's happy. He's burnt one motor up but, we've got more. He's now to the point where we could make his brushless.
If we do, It'll be 3S and turn the throttle down on the controller. Ease him into it.
