Going to start with a little recap and get to my modern day hybrid

After my kid stole my rock crawler I decided we should get into faster cars too. After talking to the hobby shop about what I was looking for they suggested a Vorteks as a good place to start. It’s fast, nimble and a good all around truck.

It started fairly simple with an out of the box car. Like every vorteks owner I noticed the run time kinda sucked and before finding this place I ordered a couple high capacity batteries. It made things better but I still found the battery to be just over storage charge levels when getting home after running. After looking more and more at different bodies I found the 4s Outcast body and ordered one up to test fit. It was much closer to fitting than I originally imagined.

After some initial test fits I decided to buy the longer 4s body posts, wing and wing mounted wheelie bar. As it sat the wheels rubbed on the body and I didn’t feel like running it just yet till the rest of the parts arrived. Everything but the wing showed up and I decided to run it anyways with a local group. Happened to find a real 4s Outcast and had fun bashing with some new friends.

My kid was rolling a bit with his granite and one of the guys suggested we consider going to Typhon arms. A quick stop to the Rc shop on the way home and we had 2 sets of arms and some extra hardware.

Next day we took 2 wide bois out and ended up smashing pumpkins

Made for an in testing clean up but the wet grass got ride of most the pumpkin remains.
Somewhere before the wing landed I had some weird issues. The esc went into permanent lvc mode with the flashing orange light of death was upon us. While I waited for HH to reply to my warranty request I bought a Firma 130a esc. Also had a receiver that failed. They got swapped out and then the wing showed up. I decided to mix it up even further. In comes a set of Typhon drive shafts and hexes. I picked up a set of Typhon 6s wheels and a set of hoons for street use.

The 6s Typhon wheels and tires make this thing really fun to drive. It wheelies a lot like the granite but is still a fast and fun ride. In comes a fourth car (Fireteam) and now I find we have a battery shortage. 6 3s batteries isn’t enough for 4 cars when the whole family goes out.

After playing with the 6s trucks we convinced my wife and daughter to go out the next day. The 3s trucks were out of juice with no spares so we stopped by the hobby shop on the way home and grabbed 2 4s batteries.

Girls were really digging the big trucks even turned down they are plenty fast.
Got home and charged the 4s packs and off to the school we went. Enjoy the audio my 6 year old was filming

They weren’t excited to go but once they started driving they were all smiles. My daughter spent most the day driving the Kexb and Fireteam. Wife started with the Granite and then went to the fireteam. They were all smiles till the batteries finally died.

After my first initial problems with my outkast 4S I really love that truck now I got the 8s and gave the old one to my son

We picked up a few Yokomo cars from a local racer to get into the racing aspect of the hobby and also picked up a few Tekno’s. Going to run the Yokomo’s on the carpet and the Tekno’s on the dirt. Happy to have something else to play with for the time being.

My Tekno army keeps getting bigger but the Arrma’s aren’t breaking as much now so it’s probably a fair trade off in expenses (my wife doesn’t agree).

These guys have been really fun to build and equally fun to go drive. They definitely aren’t “Arrma tough” but they have taken some decent hits without any damage. The one big wreck we had my daughter was driving backwards on the track and I clipped her at full throttle on the straight stretch. Dirty words were spoken.

Wife bought me a Tekno Mt410 for Father’s Day. Ordered an m2c chassis and a bunch of braces to make it a lwb chassis like the Et48 comes on. Have a max 6 combo with the 1650kv motor. Motor hits the center brace with a 20t pinion so I’m going to have to go up a couple teeth.

How do you add another grown-azz kid?🤯
That OC8 looks massive next to your boy. 🤣
I started with a K8 last Sept. ( still in the box BTW) , I've lost count on what I have now. 🤫

If it wasn’t for that little kid we wouldn’t have any of these. We have an amazing time doing it together. He has a granite, Talion, Tekno eb410.2, Yokomo YZ-2 CA carpet buggy and on Sunday we picked up a used K8 rtr truck for him. Buddy at the hobby shop got it for a smoking deal and sold it to us at an very fair price. It needs a little love but the kiddo is stoked.

This little Tekno MT/ET kit is a hoot. Added a 23t pinion and have now ran it on both 4s and 6s. 4s it’s a very competent basher. 6s and it is almost uncontrollable, I love it. I can’t wait for the bodies to show up for it. I have a proline Kraton bash armor body for it but it really doesn’t look right on the chassis. The front end geometry is enough different that the body kinda looks weird on it. I ordered a couple Leadfinger ET48 bodies and will paint one for bashing and line it with shoe goo and drywall tape. I wanted to be able to run 6s backflips but seems like I’m running out of shock travel in the front. Will settle for backflip lp’s. For good measure here is Warthog with our buddies 12S 5t.

This is such an amazing thread. It's crazy how quickly your hobby grew within months. I only have three trucks, and I've been in this hobby for three years. Maybe I need to actually get a job so I can pay for these trucks lol. Glad to see people making memories with their family! Wish I had my family involved with my interests. Best of luck to you guys!

I tend to jump into hobbies at 150% and hope that they stick. I get ultra focused on things and it consumes me. I’m a tinkerer at heart and rc’s fall in line with that. Most of my hobbies the family has zero interest in. I used to be an avid cyclist and would be on the bike 15+ hours a week. I rode away a lot of my daughters early years and realized too late what I was doing. I lost steam cycling when Covid hit as the competition was no longer there and it felt meaningless. My life has changed for the better but I greatly miss cycling, I actually rode into work today and it’s been my first ride in months.

had some issues when painting this one but overall I’m happy with how it turned out. Can’t decide if I want to sticker it up or not. Going to stuff some foam behind the front to keep it from caving in while bashing. If it survives today I’ll probably put some shoe goo and drywall tape in some key areas.
