I checked not long ago and re-greased it a bit and it was super tight. I believe if head adds up inside, and the yoke flexes, it might loosen the mesh.

I would have to say it's the yoke causing the issue then. Especially if the other gears are just fine.

I know the plastic gears can stand up to some crazy power under the right conditions. I'm willing to bet the metal yoke alone should fix this issue. But having the metals gears is also piece of mind. I've said this before, but the 3s trucks have their place. I don't take my kraton to the skatepark for good reason. The 3s trucks? I'm not so worried about there. So I can see value in upgrading those to a point.
