I see the 1250 spektrum combo on sale for a great deal. My question is will it work well in a kraton 6S exb v2?? I had asked about upgrades earlier and was going to save for a max6 1650kv combo but this sale is so affordable. Is the 1200kv spektrum (it’s the stock motor/esc in 8s outcast) an upgrade to the kraton 6S?? Is it anywhere near comparable to the max6 1650 combo? I am planning on running 6S and am wondering if anyone has used it on 6S or if it’s better than the max6 combo? Thanks as always for all the great advice.

Max6 G2 is rated for 200 amps. It's already pretty cheap but obviously not as cheap as the current sale. The gearing will be more of a challenge with such low kv on the spektrum. Personally I would only get spektrum if I had their remote or batteries for the nice telemetry stuff, otherwise Max6 with bluetooth is really nice and the ESC is a monster. Either way it's overkill.

Thanks I had a k6 years ago with the max6 g1 combo 1650kv and loved it! I was planning on getting the g2 but I saw this sale and was wondering if anyone used it in the k6 in 6S. I figured gearing like you said would be an issue. In the end it keeps seeming the max6 is the way to go but I’m always trying to save a dollar being a single dad lol. Thanks for your thoughts I really appreciate them

The 4990 combo is only 204 on Tower Hobbies with their 15% off super saver thing, but you have to buy 10 dollar club membership first for a year.

The 1250kv motor is not a good option for the 6s imho. Everyone I know that has tried it says you have to gear it to the moon to get any sort of speed and it runs super hot as a result.

While sales are nice, it’s better to get some thing that really is made for a rig like that

Check out some other threads about what a lot of the people are using for 6S

And don’t forget to check Jennys RC, they can save you some money on some spectrum stuff if you choose to go that way

Max6 4990 combo. I have one in my Kraton. 1650kv, 18t pinion, & 4s backflips, & it's a powerhouse. Plenty of power. 60 mph easy.
That sounds about right, that’s a better fit for the rig in my opinion, but then that’s my two cents

This, the ESC would work great on 6s but that motor is a bit low on the kV.

Stock motor is 2050kv for reference.

You’re 100% right hah just thinking of saving a few bucks. I always feel guilty buying myself anything because being a single dad I like to spend everything on my little girl.

Well, your hearts in the right place and there’s nothing wrong with wanting to treat the young one.

But if you’re going to spend the money, if you spend a couple extra bucks to get something, that’s really what you need, that is appropriate.

Just be careful, if she sees how much fun it is, she will want to have one for herself😈😈😈😈😈😈

You know @adubbs87 it depends on how you bash too.

That discounted combo comes with the old 5mm shaft 1250kv motor, its a big motor (4685), normally most of us do a 42mm can in the 6S rigs. The Spektrum 160A ESC it comes with is a good one, basically the same as a Max6 G1 and they are popular for the 6S line.

Since it does have a 5mm pinion, you could gear up and give it a go and see how you like it. I have seen people take that motor and go nuts with the gearing and stick them in Felony/Infractions.

Ebay fees are high, and that motor is not really in demand but for sure could recoup some cost by reselling it.

Buy the combo sell the motor for near retail on eBay use that money to buy an appropriate sized motor.
Good idea, $120 for the Firma 160 combo is a great deal, sell the 1250kv motor = bonus. Should sell lickity split for $50 or so? The 1250kv needs 8s to get any efficiency out of it I think. A good motor though. Maybe keep for a future project?
Then again, a G2 Max 6 is only $25 more at HW direct w/EXOCAGEDRC (10%) off code..$145, tough call.

Good catch, small shaft motor.. fine for smaller 1/8 scale or maybe a Limitless?

I forgot they made the 1250kv with the small shaft. I have the second gen w/8mm, been good to me thus far in a K8. Though I'm rather conservative w/setups.

That setup would work great on 6S in the Kraton. Solid ESC and motor. It’s easy to adjust for the lower kv rating with higher gearing.

I’ve run several low kv motors in similar cars and have been happy with them. Let me know if you have any gearing questions.

You’d notice a huge improvement over stock power. I’d definitely go for it at that sale price.
