Hi folks!

I've seen a few videos and posts on Reddit where shocks on a new Kraton 6s v6 were detached during bashing for no apparent reason. As I am preparing my new v6 to her first bash, this is one of the things I look at.

There is a nice big washer used in the assembly. It "eats" quite some space, so the nut has less bolt length to attach to. Was wondering if this washer is really necessary there? Can it be safely removed to give more bolt length to the nut?
Or, perhaps, a lock washer would make sense? So that things don't fall apart during a bash.

Any thoughts are appreciated, thank you!

A lock washer will take the equivalent or more room than the washer you already have. Lock washers work great on many applications but i don't like using them on items i know ill be taking off often. Those washers tend to eat away at the surface theyre grabbing onto.

You can find washers that are thinner so you can protect the tower itself. Put a small dab of blue lock tight on it so it wont back off.

You should be able to just put it back on. Sometimes things just ain’t tight from the factory. Might be a good idea to just go through the whole truck and tighten stuff up. Be careful with plastic threads cause they will strip. You can delete that washer if you want that nut shouldn’t back out as long as the bolt goes all the way through

What about getting thinner lock nuts
Im not sure where youll find "thinner" lock nuts. Ive always had luck with the standard nylock nuts....making sure the bolt goes all the way through for it to work.

Right. So the washer is there purely for protecting the tower? I am just thinking what role does it play in this specific section.

Oh yes, that is what I am doing. I already checked all the diffs and topped them up a bit. They were in a fine state (comparing to half empty diffs of Kraton 4s).
Here I am trying to understand if the washer is important or not really. Without it the bolt goes through the nut all the way through.

The washer is there to protect the surface the nut is being tightened up against. No washer means that over time, the surface will get a bit used up and start wearing into your larger piece. Eventually over time, youll have to replace the piece. Thats pretty much anything that requires to be bolted.

My V1 EXB standoffs without washers have never come loose. I have some V2 standoffs coming just in case.

If it's really a problem I would ditch the flat washer and run Traxxas M4 serrated nyloc wheel nuts part # 8347.

...Or there's serrated flat washers that are thinner than a normal washer. Those fixed a problem I was having on my O8S.
