Kraton ,Outcast 8s Side Guards

Hey Guys does anybody know why the Side Guards on the Kraton/Outcast 8s have an insert on the motor side of the truck...at the front
Just not sure why this is there and can't figure its function...Why not make it one full piece without a hole in it that an insert has to fill it up unless it has a functional purpose

It is to install larger (longer) motors.

I thought I broke that side on a run but realized it was meant to be like that with that insert there..
