Lipo charging question

Is there a downside to only charge a lipo to about 95-99%?
I ask because the last 1% takes a pretty long time

Are you balance charging? If so, the amp rating probably drops towards the end to not overshoot the landing zone. I don’t think there’s a real problem with it. If someone know more about batteries please correct me.

The last 1% that "takes so long" is the actual balance charge taking place. You are right by saying that's why the amp rating drops.

Low budget chargers have less capable balance circuits, a more efficient charger will handle it faster. That's one spec (balance current) of chargers overlooked when comparing. With a battery as potentially volatile and as expensive as lipos are, I'd let it finish the balance charge.
