looking for a crawler to run around. have huge piles of rock and boulders at work and thought it would be fun to run around on them. also have several creeks on property that we own to run on the rocks and banks with. we have the where covered just need the what.
looking for suggestions
want something that doesn't need a ton of upgrades out of the box but can be upgraded
would prefer a kit so I can put it together
want a ton of travel and ground clearance to get over big rocks
looking for 1-10 scale or there about
I would like something that is durable out of the box as well. don't want it to break all the time
don't really have a preference on body type. kind of like the bouncer look more so that a jeep or truck
have looked at the axial ryft a little and some of the vanquish kits.
don't really have a budget but would like keep it under $1000
I also have 3s and 4s spectrum and 3s traxsas batteries already so if I can use them that would also be great but I don't want that to limit my choices
thanks in advance
you guys are awesome!

Ryft is more of a basher/bouncer. Not a crawler.

Capra and Gatekeeper have cage bodies. Both are available in kit form.

HW quicrun 1080 ESC
Holmes crawlmaster sport 550 ~13T
30+kg servo

Note that the cage bodies don’t always have as much room for batteries as the realistic bodies. Might be worth checking battery dimensions if you’re set on using existing batteries.

Wasn't sure about 4 wheel steering.

The capra can be turned into 4ws.

Note the cage bodies allow for more suspension travel and lower the COG

Hands down the Element Enduro variants are top notch and one of the cheaper options too. They really don't need upgrading other than tires, but there is a huge aftermarket if you desire.

Traxxas Trx4 is a good one too. Good crawler, scale looking bodies if you desire, and the 2-speed transmission version allows you faster trail driving. So it is more diverse in than manner.

Im not an Axial fan boy but do love the Capra .It is another amazing crawler. The caged body makes it harder to get in there to work on that though. There is a new 4 wheel steering version too. Very cool and unique for an RTR. Also a huge aftermarket following. The downside to the Axial brand is the shocks tend to be mediocre and the plastic is flimsier than the others mentioned.

Stick to one of these 3 options for the best crawling ability. Most other trucks are more of “trail” trucks or full scale model type builds.

I'm an Element Fan. You can see them here Love my Ecto and Enduro HD. Also have the trail runner.

Ecto - still a work in progress.

I’ll +1 the Element line. I still have the original Trailwalker. I also set up a Class 2 comp rig based on the the Element transmission, axles and links.

The Vanquish kits are next level. I have two of those also.

You can’t go wrong with either brand.

I have to add, the Vanquish Phoenix kit now priced at $399 is an awesome deal. I have the Pro, but the Phoenix is portal axle with both selectable OD and Dig! It may not be for first time kit builders and needs 3 servos but it’s the bees knees!

I still need to paint and assemble my body but here is the assembled chassis.

Ryft is a good rig but not really a crawler more of a rock bouncer

I have lots of crawlers (10 total )in multiple brands TRX4 is a good one but the best budget would have to be the axial scx10ii raw builders kit

I have 2 of them and they just don’t brake also aftermarket support is like nothings else on the market

I have picked multiple of them up on eBay recently for as low as 160$ new in box

Throw a
H/W 1080 ESC
Holmes crawl master sport motor
Amazon 25kg servo (cheap) but work
Amazon 1.9 beadlocks (cheap) but work
Pitbull or proline tires
And body of choice

This is the best budget crawler to get you having fun on the rocks in the 500$ range

Axial capra, brushless power, 2.2’s, lower the shocks internally. it'll get over most anything! Not quite rock bouncer durabilty however. Although i do drive mine like one from time to time
Should be well under mine was around $1000 CAD to build from a kit including radio

I’ve got a SCX10iii that I recently took on trade if your just looking for something to get you going. It’s in good condition but has normal scratches on the body and underside from usage. I will sell it for $250 plus shipping without the transmitter or $300 with. The esc on these trucks has the receiver built into it and it binds with a spectrum transmitter. The guy I got it from didn’t give me the transmitter with it so I would be including the one from my new LMT, that’s the reason for additional $50, and that’s how much it would cost for me to buy another futaba receiver for my LMT.

Ok so I've been looking at all these suggestions and reading up on different vehicles and upgrades.
If i want 4 wheel steering, dig ,and overdrive, is there a truck avaliable?
The capra looks like my only option just not sure on overdrive.
Also if i wanted to add 4 wheel steering is it just a matter of putting a front axle in back with a servo?
Thanks again.

If you want all the extra stuff just listed above then your best beat is to get a 4wheel steer RTR Capra
