Arrma RC's
  1. Granite
My son has a Granite 4x4 and the servo is clicking. I could probably get the warranty but I will just replace it with a more reliable servo. I was looking at the Savox Waterproof Standard Digital Servo .15/208 SAVSW0231MG. I know that it is overkill on torque but I can get it for $25. Has anyone used it in the Granite 4x4. Will it it be plug and play.

Thanks

JB

That servo seems slow, at 0.17s @ 6v. The stock servo is closer to 0.12s-0.14s, I think (EDIT - Arrma lists it as 0.12s at 6v). I have not tried to time it, but it feels fast. Most of my servos in other cars are in the 0.10s-0.12s range, and the ADS5 feels like it keeps up.

Personally, I have a $15 Trackstar TS411mg ready to go when the ADS5 pukes it's plastic gears.

(Specs from Hobbyking)
Weight: 57g
Size: 39.0mmx19.5mmx38.5mm
Torque: 9.2kg.cm (4.8V)~11.1kg.cm (6.0V)
Speed: 0.11sec/60deg (4.8V)~0.09sec/60deg (6.0V)
Voltage: 4.8~6.0V
Type: Digital Standard
Motor: Coreless Motor
Gear Train: Alloy Gears
Ball Bearing: Dual Japan NSK Ball Bearing
Lead Length: 255mm
Plug: JR/Futaba
Spline Count: 25

Have you tries the ads15 from 1 of the other arrmas I kno it' over kill with 15kg tourqe but being they have brass gears prolly would work good in that rig. But ya I always go with savox pricey compared to the cheaper 1s I've seen online but I love my savox servos I have them in all my arrmas.

Nice job confusing the issue, Savox. Show 0.15s in the title, but the specs show 0.17. The Spec Sheet HERE doc also shows 0.17s, so I am thinking that is correct.

I do have 2 ADS15's, but one is dead. The one that works has bad gear wear, so it sounds like a box of rocks. I ran it in my son's RC10 (RE-RE) for a while, and it was OK, but pretty slow on 5v. His RC10 is now running one of the Trackstar servos I linked above.

ADS15 specs -
Note that is is a 7.2v servo - made for the old BLX180 that had a 7.2v BEC. Spec for 6.0v (BLX185) are not that great.
Torque – ADS-15M: 15kg/cm (208oz/inch) at 7.2V
Speed – 0.16 sec/0.14 sec 6V/7.2V

I sent my ads15 back to arrma after stripping the gears. Then I heard rumors from some people that when they got there' back from arrma. It came with the metal gear set not installed of course but I'm hoping the rumors r true and then it would make it alot better. Don' quote me on it tho just something my lhs owners told me.

I did buy the savox 0231. My son is 12 and i don't think that he would notice the speed difference. The servo cost me $25 and it is hard not to buy it for that price. Thank you all for your input on this.

I was thinking of calling the company and seeing if I can change it to the savox 0230 would you do it. Is 90oz torque enough .

Enough? Well it is more than the ADS5. 111oz is about 8kg. ADS5 is 5kg.

Also, realize the 0230 is not really that much faster than the 0231 when you look at the 6.0v rating for both (Arrma BEC's are 6v). 0230 is 0.16s, 0231 is 0.17s. Personally for a kids truck, you already have the 0231 bought, just use it. The extra torque may make it equal or faster in real usage. :)
