So I have a kraton 6s with a mamba monster x and a 1515 1650kv motor. I used a powerhobby 5000mah 100c battery and it caught fire. I got new battery straps and ran my new lectron pro 5200 mah 50c battery, it didn't catch fire but it was hot, smelled burnt and was puffed. (It has since went down to its nornal size). Motor and esc Temps were fine. This all happened after I changed my motor from the stock motor to the castle motor. Is it the batteries or the esc/motor? I have the punch set to a 10% reduction from full punch and I have the starting power set to the medium setting. Thanks in advance!

Your packs are capable of what you’re running if they are getting that hot. Are you sure your motor is a 1515, not the 1520? Are you running an MMX8S or the MMX (6S version)?

Yes I am sure I an running the correct system. I'll attach some pictures.
Sorry I said the wrong kv value above. But everything else was correct.
If the motor isn't getting hot what could be my issue? Just bad luck with my batteries?

Ok so no biggie you just had said 1650kv, which would have been a 1520.

That said, I don’t know enough about this combo to be definitive for you but something seems strange. The Powerhobby 100C should have been solid for that setup.

How hot is it out where you are? What gearing are you running? What battery connectors?

In retrospect I probably have it geared way to high since I thought it was 1650kv. I have a 23 tooth pinion. Still...the motor isn't hot.

It is about 25 degrees Fahrenheit on average.
Ic5/ec5 connectors
Here are the connectors.
I'll put a 15 tooth pinion on it tomorrow since I'm running it with paddle tires. After that I'll run it on 21 tooth and see if that fixes it. I still can't shake the feeling something else is up though.

2200kv may be the problem there.
Also, Paddles draw beaucoup Amps btw.
Gear down some more? What else?
Run QS8's (8mm plugs)

Not at all an expert but I feel it would be too much for that combo. I run that combo in my waay lighter SMT10. Not saying its not capable but def would want to have a smaller pinion. Just my take.
Good luck with it....don't give up on CC! ;):)

👍, crazy thing is that I think the battery is the weak spot. Not the system itself. I'm gonna take it out for a speed run tomorrow with a 24 tooth pinion and see what happens. I definitely won't do more than two or three passes so I don't blow up another battery. It may be worth it for me to get some cnhl 90c or gens ♤ce basher batteries as I've heard good things about them.
After that I'll go to a 15 tooth pinion with the paddle tires and hope that fixes it.

Keep us posted. 🤞(y)

As you have somewhat figured out yourself, you are way overgeared.

2200kv on 6s running 23/50 gearing means you are geared for a theoretical117mph (calculated with stock tires, 4.2V per cell and no losses)…that’s almost double what most would consider optimal for a basher.

Try a more appropriate gearing and your batteries will be fine.

I checked the resistance of my 6s lectron pro 50c battery here is a pic, I know that lower is better and that the resistance should be roughly the same. I think that the resistance is awful here is a pic.
