So I have been researching about batteries (nimh) (not ready for lipos yet), but I keep coming across the onyx nimh batteries, a question for you folks is a standard connector a deans? They always say "standard connector" and since I am new to the hobby I don't know what that means..

@justatree the "standard" connector is a Tamiya connector. See this picture here:

so to charge the battery (included and universal connectors aka deans) I should get the star plug?

If your battery has a Tamiya battery connector and you want to charge said battery without changing the connector on said battery then you'll need a banana to Tamiya lead.

That said, if it was me I would buy the battery with the deans plug and not the Tamiya plug as deans are much more efficient. In which case you'll want a banana to Deans lead or even use a squid multi lead which most of connectors for several popular battery connectors.
