I purchased a max6 g2 and 4990 1650 from ebay. The ad stated run on bench for 30 mins. Also said went with max8 instead. After I opened the box I noticed the poorly done traxxas connector and 4 black sections of heat shrink. 1 of the 4 was soldered(cold joint) the other 3 used crimped barrel connectors. This left 2-3 inches of factory + - hobbywing cables. What's the consensus? Fixable?

I think with a decently powerful soldering iron you could easily repair it but on the flip side a crappy solder joint could literally burn your truck to the ground.

Personally I’d try to repair it but I also know my skills and what I’m capable of. It’s a lot easier telling a stranger on the internet it’s no big deal though.

I am working on one right now with shorter leads 😆.

Do you have spare barrel connectors? You could solder one on each side and make a cable for the battery plugs?

Thinking like this:

I'm all good soldering. Just bust out the trusty hakko and good to go. My only concern with the repair is the length.. I've always heard you shouldn't cut esc wires. I really don't get people who spend hard earned money and hack things up.

I was going to use 10awg and interlace the wires, then heat it up and get some solder in there. Heat shrink it and wire the plugs in series

It's not hard to solder extension onto your battery wires. First match your wire gage and second use a jig. For a jig I taped the wires to a popsicle stick the last time I did it. They came out straight as an arrow.

I like this idea! Photo please 🙃

Do you have any experience getting corrosion off the wire? Any tips?

If you can, get the heat shrink with the glue on the inside. They work great!
