Arrma RC's
  1. Typhon 3s
Hi so I have a typhon 3s buggy and was thinking about metal differentials and was wondering if there’s certain pieces I can get metal instead of buying a whole new metal differential, I was thinking about getting the input gear and crown gear metal but is there more that I need and at that point should I just buy a complete metal one

Go to Arrma-Rc.com to see what option parts you need. Listed for the Typhon 3s. I know that there is a CNC'ed metal ring gear that costs like $75. each. Ouch. The stocker metal ones are made of only sintered metal casting . And crack chip easily. Just what I read elsewhere on AF. Do a search here on AF. Many threads in regards.
JennysRC.com is also another option for a complete Diff Assy.
Also, the 4x4 V2 4s rig runs metal diff gears, if I am correct.
Others will chime in......

Get the CNC ones. You need the input gear, crown gear, and the case. You can buy them assembled from arrma but that comes with the insides and the yolks as well so its a little more than you would spend just getting the pieces

I am currently running them on 6s in my offroad truck

Here’s the parts you need bud. Saves a bit over the $75 complete ones. Just use the internals from the diff you have. Need diff oil as well. I like 15-20wt in back and 25-30wt front. Weight is different from cst by the way.

Fortunately there are a couple ways to get beefier differentials for the 3s line. You can use the Kraton/Outcast 4s diffs & bevel gears, or you can go the Hot Racing Ring/Pinion & Carrier Case route. Either option will give your diffs more strength than the plastic gears could ever give.
The 4S differentials are sintered (monkey) metal. They’re fine for a 3S powered car and yes, can get them off jennysrc.com for about 38 bucks (with 6-7 bucks shipping)…however you can build a CNC differential for not much more. Amain hobby usually has the parts and $3 shipping. I just don’t trust the hot racing differentials. Expensive, add additional weight and the tolerances aren’t always that great.

There’s nothing wrong with the composite gears If the car is set up right (properly shim the diff and adjust the slipper to absorb stress) and you learn how to drive it (don’t land on power, be careful about going from light to heavy traction surfaces etc). Ideally, you want to keep these things as light as possible, that’s a big part of their durability. If you want a heavy duty metal car the 6s line is better for that.
