First time painting an RC. I really wanted to do something decent. Finally saw the clear infraction body in stock and ordered it.

Now I needed to choose a color. I wanted something blue and after hours of cross searching Tamiya polycarbonate paints on Horizon’s website I settled for PS-49 Sky Blue Anodized Aluminum as the primary color. And learned that metallic paints do better with black or dark backing to really make them pop. PS-63 Bright Gun Metal was my in between choice as it’s not too bright like silver and not too dark like black. Time to test it out. Black backing on the left and gun metal on the right. Easier to see in person. The black was deeper in blue and gun metal looked more metallic.

Decided to back with the gun metal. Time to prep the body and remove any residue and oil from fingers on the inside of the body. Used dish soap and a clean sponge.

Initially, I was gonna paint the entire body blue. But game time decision led me to a two tone paint scheme with black on top and in the bed.
Used blue painters tape to mark off the spots not to paint. Made sure to go over the edges multiple times to prevent bleeding and to keep the lines sharp. This is where you wanna use a good quality painters tape. For the curved edges the LHS recommended I use 3mm Tamiya masking tape. It worked brilliantly! With everything masked I started with multiple light layers of black until it was fully covered.

Now for the primary color. Also learned, lay down your darkest colors first. First coat nice and light and used my heat gun to assist in drying it. 5 minutes later…

After the base coat was laid down evenly, I backed it with the bright gun metal. Also, buy extra paint. One can of black barely was enough and I needed one more can of the gun metal as it wasn’t enough for these 1/7 scale bodies.

First coat of Gun Metal…

And lastly, third coat.

Now for the stickers/decals. Currently I just put on the basics. Not sure if I’ll keep it simple or make it more race inspired with the decals. Here’s the finished product.

Well done on your first job, impressed with your planning and execution. 👍

Looks very cool!! I know what mean about searching around for the right colors. I’ve got a protoform c8 body to paint & can’t decide on colors yet🤯 but very nice looking infraction you’ve made, looks good with no decals other then basics 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Thanks. A bunch of small things I’ll fix going forward, but definitely a great learning experience.
Well done! Looks very nice. Sometimes it's really hard to decide what you want to do, when there are so many choices.

Tell me about it lol The hours I’ve spent searching the web for classic car paint jobs haha

I wish I could just buy the whole color Spektrum Tamiya offers lol

Yeah, I think I’ll keep it simple.

My Bittydesign Seven65 I’m going do champagne gold and black. Can’t wait to see what you do with the C8!!
