Here’s two different spools I’ve made in case anyone wants to do the same for the 3s chassis cars.
1st spool setup:
2 slipper hubs ground flat
2 non shouldered bearings
One long red Insert
FOH mod 1 gear
3 nuts/screws

Clamped the two hubs to one side of the gear and used vice grips to hold it in place to drill the 3 holes.
Making sure it is perfectly centered is crucial or else the gear will wobble. Loctite the screws
Also it may be necessary to grind the ridges on the side of the gear down for the hubs to sit flush against the gear

Temporarily slide them both on one side so the holes in the gear are visible

2nd spool setup :
2 slipper hubs
One long red insert
Mod 1 saga gear
2 non shouldered bearings

Will require some clearance to the motor/trans case

Each of the hubs have to get ground down to different lengths I’ll update with the exact mm lengths
The red long insert needs to have the threads lightly sanded away

How did you center the pinion? Just by eyeball?
For the first design with the 3 screws I clamped it all together with the shoulder of one of the slipper hubs slid into the center hole of the gear. Clamped the other one to it with the red insert holding them centered with each other and made the three holes with it all clamped together. Prior to drilling you can measure around the hub to the edge of the gear, to be reassured it’s centered.
I went thru a handful of hubs before I got this right

U ever considered making these and selling them? I have a infraction mega I converted to brushless was only getting 38mph on 4s with a 150amp ESC and 2000kv motor with the 26T pinion. Bumped it to 6s and blew out the spur gear but got it to 52mph lol. I wanna convert it to mod1 gears but not completely sure how you did this or what I should convert it to so I can achieve 60-70mph wo swapping out esc and motor again on 4s. Not sure what ratio I would need either ie 26T pinion 43T spur ECT only been in hobby 6 months any help would be extremely appreciated

Hot racing also just released a slipper eliminator. I should be testing that this weekend
My homemade spools have held over 160mph now but are difficult to make so it would be nice to have an easier option

Few vids on yt easy to follow, made mine with a 34t for a mega with 6s system as well👍

Ok so 34t works?
that the smallest you can go?

@K-BASH do you think a 35t would also work?
might be a bit snug, but i want to get your thoughts.

I've tried 34,36,38..anything smaller than 36 was very hard for me to get centered.the plastic traxxas 38 worked got an held up okay.stripped 2 out.the 36t is perfect an worked best for me.ill only use the 36t cause no brakes above 100mph is no good..happened a few times from either plastic one stripping or pinion coming loose..ran 107mph on 4s with 26/36 with 3080kv motor

Alright, from your estimates, what’s the largest gear you can mesh with a 36t spool?

Hey everyone will this 36t work?
hot racing part no. HRASRVO436

Alright, I’ll give it a test.
does a 32t pinion on that sound to high?
Also @K-BASH bought it 👍
picked the best shipping I hope it’s here by Sunday lol

107 isnt bad on 4s.
nice part about the 36t traxxas is even though it is plastic, it also costs like 3 bucks and I can get it at the LHS

32t won't fit. I trimmed module to fit 30t.all depends on kv

Interesting. With the stock vendetta slipper i was able to fit a 31t pinion just fine, and innovation rc fit a 34t.
running a 2200kv if that helps
