Just to make sure, you are not actually using a 16mm long screw are you? The manual says 3/16 inches which is about 5mm!?

Edit to clarify: The 5mm or 3/16 inches is the depth of the screw holes on the motor. So use a screw that does not stick out farther than 5mm from the back of your motor mount and you're good.

I’m using 4m16mm
And apparently they went in a little to far

But I’ve been running the motor hard and it doesn’t seem to have any issues... at least not yet
