I'm going to focus my efforts here ,along with documenting the design progress for creating a functional prosthetic finger for @Mr.Duke

Hopefully this will help in his recovery process.

Starting with just the basics.

Just need some measurements and reference photos to get started.

I know he's still very busy at the moment.
There's absolutely No rush on my end. He can take as much time as he wants/needs.

Let's keep it light & humorous.

> Code Name - Butter Finger

My plans:
To use as much R/C components and custom 3D printed parts in creating the prosthetic.

BOM:
3S Adjustable Turnbuckles/Camber Link
3S Rod Ends
3mm ball bearings (3 x 6 x 2.5mm, double sealed)
3mm stainless steel washers
3mm stainless steel screws
3mm stainless steel nuts

Medical tape
550 Paracord
Quick release buckles
Leather straps
80lb bow serving
Elastic bands
Silicone O-rings
Silicone finger guard/sock

PLA+ (for design prototype)
TPU
PETG

(Will update list ,as needed.)

I think I missed something and link does not work.🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂

The link works..
I just linked it a few posts before actual photos ,so folks aren't smacked in the face directly to the images..
You just need to scroll down a few postings ,to see what happened.

And of course a page or two prior -in that thread- will let you see the initial injury 🤕.

Looks like the link to is protected or something; I get “You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action.”
I’ve seen MrDuke with big farming equipment. That combined with your thread I think I have an idea of what happened and what kind of pictures there will be…😳

Oh..
Ooops.

I'm sorry. You are correct.
I forgot that Thread I linked to goes to the 'for members only' section..

So yeah it's sort of "off limits" to general public.
Sorry about that.

Yes sir.
That is what you imagined...

Let's just say that it looked like he had an extra finger.

For the folks who can't see/follow-along the original thread..

This was my attempt at humor..

And, just putting it out there..

Not sure if you want any "personality" to your mechanical digit..
For example Freddie Krueger, E.T. ,Edward Scissor Hands, Wolverine mini claw ,or just plain ol' Terminator thumb or pinky..
cause Halloween is coming..

Or, something actually functional..?
Tooth pick holder, Micro USB stick ,or mini Laser pointer??

For those days when you might-
1. Need to spread some butter on your toast,
2. Open a letter/bill, or
3. To defend yourself against an angry raccoon.

But, I am serious regarding the overall functionality.

Some guess-timations on my part while waiting for new components to arrive.

Should be here later today or tomorrow..

Once I have the parts, I'll rough out the pieces to more resemble a human finger..

Will start drafting the new finger segments to accept these new ball bearings.

How's the progress going?

Mr. Duke hasn't gotten back with me on his finger dimensions...
I did reached out to him a couple of times.

I've even ordered all the necessary parts..

Maybe it was my Wolverine claw, Terminator Butter finger or Robocop jokes that rubbed him the wrong way...? IDK
🤷

I know it has been awhile since I last updated this thread..

The time may be now.

Mr. Duke has reached out to me and
he indicated that he may be ready to under go the painful transformation as the Project X test subject.

Will prep the operating room soon...

What do you have in mind for the 22mm OD bearings?

Some dudes have big hands..

I wasn't sure how fat his fingers are..
so I wanted to make sure I'll have bearings that'll meet the challenge -in case he has bratwurst-size digits..

One of the things he shared with me was the fact that he's 'driven' his RCs only twice (in the past 9 months) since the accident.. because he's not able to properly control the throttle anymore in his left hand.

Trying to do so instead with his middle finger is just not working. Definitely not the same as using his index finger.

So hopefully with a custom designed prosthetic it'll give him back some of the dexterity to manipulate the transmitter again and be able to get back to enjoying rippin' those cool rigs of his.

I’ve finally gotten my hand back healed around 90-95% and the swelling has gone down to a point where this project can take shape and accurate measurements can be taken.

This will be a fun project 👍

Getting some basic measurements..

IMG_20230612_211154.jpg

185mm around the wrist

IMG_20230612_211158.jpg

From wrist to webbing in between index and middle finger is 112mm

IMG_20230612_211144.jpg

IMG_20230612_211149.jpg

92mm

More precise measurements of left hand index:

Right hand index finger ,for reference.

My main concern is to make sure the base for the proximal phalanx casing/interface can fit comfortably but also secure enough so as to not accidentally come off..

For use during farming activities/duties, holding a hunting bow/rifle or serious RC bashing.
