Arrma RC's
  1. Fazon
  2. Talion
So, let me start by saying that my main bashing rig is a Talion. My nine year old wanted in on the fun so I bought him the 1/10 Raider Mega. He literally played with it for about two weeks and decided he wanted something else. He chose the HPI Jumpshot SC because he wanted a 'short course' truck like his friends slash. Needless to say I was kinda ticked, but nevertheless he got the HPI.
Now I had a Raider just sitting on the shelf doing nothing.
Fast forward a few weeks and I caught the kit build bug. Problem was that I could not decide on a kit....then I remembered.....Arrma Raider.
Now, Im about two weeks in. Most of it has been waiting on parts. Right now its a 'lost' spur gear. Anyway, here she is so far.....
Some of this is pretty standard fair, but I have had to make sime modifications. Alot has been pulled from other builds.

RC screwz stainless throughout

STRC shocks bodies and caps, hinge carries, front skid, front and rear shock tower braces, and chassis braces.

Proline Dirt Hawgs front and rear (painted side wall lettering white. Pita)

FTX Vantage wheels front and rear (on the way)

Castle Creations SV3 ESC and 4 pole 4600kv brushless motor.

Castle Creations sv3 esc fan and motor fan (I live in FL....its blistering hot 10 months out of the year)

Tbone racing front and rear bumpers ( Just a note here. Tbone racing specifically states that the rear bumper does not fit the Mega. The rear is being used as a motor guard as well. Took some modding here.)

Arrma parts needed to upgrade to brushless including motor plate, gear box, input shaft etc etc.

Arrma aluminum roof and lower plate

Arrma motor guard and wheelie bar set which is on standby until I see how the tbone racing bumper/guard works out

Arrma ADS-7M V2 servo

Fast Eddy sealed bearings throughout

Clear body shell and paint ( I plan on keeping the windsheild. In the process of figuring out how to keep it pinned down under the roof. I also plan on cutting out the front scoop and attaching mesh to keep out debris and to keep airflow coming towards the esc. The sides of the roll cage are getting window netting.)

gensacearespammers 2s 5000mah 50c battery specifically for this car. (Had to remove battery door and tray foam and cut the rear foam insert in half to accommodate this pack. I also had to trim the leads to fit under the wind screen.

Arrma HD hinge set

Right now I'm in the process of wire management, cutting soldering, etc etc. I had planned on jacketing the motor wires with some left over sleeving from a PC project, but it made the wires too stiff to maneuver around in the tight cockpit.

Also had to move tge reciever box back like 1mm to accommodate the esc fitting where I wanted it. I sealed up the exsisting screw holes with plastic model glue and drilled and tapped new holes into the chassis. Worked out well.

Two for one, some wrenching therapy and watching over the baby...

Nice build, looking good so far. Somewhat overkill, but a little extra power does not hurt anyone.

Much overkill. Biggest concern atm is weight. This thing is heavy. Ive already put 30w shock oil front and rear. Im thinking 40w rear now and stiffer springs. Adjusting rear collars has taken most of the sag out but I'm concerned with bottoming out.

Punch list-

Need my wheels to get here. The cheapy tires on it are going to cause a crash.

Still waiting on 17t pinion. 32p 54t spur is here.

Waiting on spring kits. This thing is heavy. 60wt in the rear is keeping my squat on acceleration under control. Also have some hpi bladders coming for the shocks. May or may not get socks for them.

Going to try fitting an ECX wing I ordered. Should be here by Thur.

Still need to finish trimming and sanding the body. Intake needs to be cut out. Nose piece was left extended to fully cover screws and over hang the front lip.
Windsheild needs to be thinned out up top under roof along with spacer behind it. Longer <5mm probably> button screws for the roof. Used washers on the rear body mounts to combat tearing. May pin the side rollcage parts.

Paint...waiting on ink for printer to print my template. Love the Talion lines. Going for that look. Different colors

Need to figure out where Im putting the power switch. Thinking about mounting to some thick lexan and mounting between rollcage and wing.

Decided to paint the nose today and do it freehand. Learned a lot about what not to do with the body. A few imperfections. Fading from gunmetal up front to silver to black while incorporating the Talions abstract line theme is challenging to say the least.

Power switch is in now

Note to self. Next time make sure you have liquid mask. Especially for bodies like this...sheesh

Body is done. I made a ton of mistakes. Overall I can deal with it, and try again some other time. My first go at something other than single or two tone taught me a lot. One thing for sure....Im no Hemistorm

Still a few more odds and ends.
Captured pivot balls and turnbuckles for steering and rear camber.
Springs are on the way.
Got in touch with Murat-rc....hes making me some shock socks
Still waiting on my front dirt hawgs and the full set of ftx vantage wheels
17t pinion to go with my 32p 54t spur
Still have to finish installing those hpi shock bladders
I ordered cvds for the rear
Still have to install the mesh behind the ram intake...waiting for paint to fully cure
Oh, and i ordered another set of shock internals. Going to try stock one more time. No leakage, just want things tighter.
I really had no desire to use decals, but I screwed the paint up bad enough that I needed to cover some things up.

Awesome build @Silomatic, can't wait to see this thing running. :D

Test run with the 17t pinion and 54t spur
Need to tune the suspension and get my wheels and tires in before I go too crazy.
Some esc programming as well.
Sorry for the camera work. Nine year old was doing his best.

Wheels showed. Rears are glued up.
Still waiting on front tires.....
Amazes me how something from China takes a month, but from GB...got them in a week. I blame customs lol. My Chinese package has been in New York for nine days
Just ran it. It now does wheelies. Guess i need to invest in a wheelie bar or tone down the punch setting

Just a small update:
Front tires are now glued and mounted.
Car has too much power, may downgrade after I try some suspension tuning.
Its fun as hell to drive, vut that much power on a two wheel drive system is getting the best of me.

The uncontrollable starts to become less and less fun. Lol.

CVDs are in. Wheel hex pin is further back now so I'll be ordering some different ones. <the pin barely sits in the STRCs now, but function>
Reduced front shock oil weight from 60 to 40 and put the durango silver spring on. Hopefully that will allow for better turning.

Got tired of looking at every 48mm turnbuckle. Got tired of pricing rod ends. Really wanted to do pivot balls all around as well. We'll see what the furture brings.

Just went with 2013 spec. We'll see how it works out. Dissappointed though. I wanted to do the front as well, but AR330169 only came with enough to do the rear and one steering link....guess Im ordering another set, or back to researching rod ends

Ran into the same problem when I did my rod ends. Would it be so hard for them to put enough for all of them in one package?

Exactly. Why have all but one set for steering...its dumb
