I finally got up and started assembling my Optima Mid kit. It’s really nice, and brought back a lot of memories of building Kyosho kits back in the 80’s and 90’s. Here’s some pics. I’ll probably finish it tomorrow.

Thats awesome man!

I built two Tamiya kits recently. They arent the newest and most up to date rc but they are a Ton of fun to build. They are very cheap also in comparison to a lot of rc's of today!

😎

Sweet!! Really does look like a quality kit! I remember my brother bought a nitro powered 4x4 Kyosho buggy back in the 80's. You know, no recoil, wrap the string around the pulley!!🤭🤣🤣
Chain drive it was, never saw much use, waay too much hassle to run. I believe belt drive was an upgrade to what he had? Anywho, Congrats and Enjoy bro!!😁👍🍻

I used to race my Kyosho Javelin and Ultima among others back in the late 80’s and early 90’s, and I wanted one of these so bad it hurt. When they re-released it, I had to have one. It’s a really high quality kit, and as always, excellent build manual. I think I may order an Ultima next. Building this buggy helped me a lot.

I agree, this is a great hobby, and it’s great in the sense that it can occupy your senses and keep much of the other noise out. Enjoy this build, man. I’ll be looking forward to following your next build as well!

It’s almost done. I had to order an aftermarket ESC mount because the way the chassis is set up, my Max10 had no good mounting point.

As a side note, this is the first time in 36 years of RCing I’ve ever painted and stickered a body to actually look like the box. Lol

Well, I think you nailed it! That looks fast just sitting there. Beautiful job!

Thanks! I have always loved the looks of the Mid. It might wind up being a shelf queen lol.

Just give it one easy run atleast before you shelf it (if you do). It eats me up when I have one on the shelf thats never been ran 😂
Very good job on that body, looks epic. Love box art bodies

Looks awesome @Xjeepguy! The pictures make the kit look like a very high end one.. Or maybe its that Reefs Raw 500 in there :ROFLMAO:!
I knew you’d point that out lol.
Looks great! I used to race the Ultima back in the 90's. Had a Novak ESC and a 6 cell Nicad. Fun stuff.
Same here! I actually converted mine to a stadium truck the last few races. 6cell SCR Nicad packs, and I had a Novak 410 MXC speed control, with a futaba FP-T3PG radio. Those were the days.

I probably will run it a bit, just not like I run the others lol.

Welp, it’s finally done. Got my ESC plate installed and finished the electronics. It’s got a Reedy 3300kv motor and ESC, (the hobbywing was way too big) Reefs Raw 500 servo, and Spektrum receiver. I ran it around the living room and it’s so quiet and smooth. Gotta love belt drive.

Never built a Kyosho or Tamiya kit and now I want to..nice job man! 👍🏼
Thanks! If you get an Optima Mid (which I highly recommend 😂) go ahead and order the Koswork esc mount. It’s very difficult to mount a modern esc in this chassis without it.

A lot of the Tamiya kits are really basic but if your into nostalgic things they're wonderful. Just don't pick one up thinking they're something they're not😉
Back in early 2000's the M chassis mini coopers were absolutely huge. They had thier own racing series. I was super into them and still love them. Now days you can hardly find info on all that, its the weirdest thing.

I love that Kyosho man! Its on the list of shelf art i want for the fireplace mantel.
I really want the Beetle, Tomahawk and Scorpion. Those are such nice kits. Its like a worm hole once you start!

I’m in love with this buggy! It took me back to being a kid, building these things. This was the one that got away, because I couldn’t afford it back then.

The biggest thing is that I’ve been able to focus on the build and keep my mind off of other things. It has done me a world of good. I’ve decided that I’m going to build more of them.

Here are some screenshots of the kits I’m going to backorder, probably next week. This should keep me busy for a while….

You’ll notice another Optima Mid in there. The kit comes with a decal sheet for the Turbo Optima Mid as well. I’m going to build a second one as the Turbo.
