I'm new to the hobby and find searching for correct tires and wheels for my new Senton 4x4 3S to be tiring.
  1. Do I convert to 12mm?
  2. Do I get tires separate from the wheels and mount myself?
  3. Do I purchase from Amazon, eBay, Hobby Store?
  4. What are the easiest applications in terms of fit?
As you can see, I have too many questions to simply replace the stock wheels/tires.
I'm considering the following replacement pre-mounted tires. Thoughts?

Traxxas Rustler Talon EXT 2.8" Pre-Mounted Tires w/RXT Wheels
TRA6774X or TRA6773?

Also looking at these.
Duratrax Lockup ST 2.8" Mounted Offset Tires, DTXC3568

I was able to track down literal no name 12 and 17 mm adapters at my local hobby shop. It was a chap and easy way to get cheap pre-mounted setups and now I have spare wheels.

I really like the bandito SC tires I got out of the discount bin.

Proline makes the raid wheels with interchangeable hexes. I stuck with 14mm inserts and lp trenchers. Night and day over stock tires. Duratrax were mentioned and I don’t think you can go wrong with them either. I’ll most likely pick up a set for my granite since it runs 14mm hex as well.

The duratrax are great. I use eBay a ton with their money back system.
Duratrax has a complete 14mm lineup
don’t dare put traxxas tires on!?
Duratrax it is. :)
Please post a few links to the 14mm line-up. Their site lacks specs.

Are these okay?

I find it hard to locate the hex size.

Do you want to keep the same size tires or go larger? If you go larger you will need to replace the pinion gear to a 13 or 15 mm. Here is my truck. My tires are larger and the pinion gear mis 13mm with a body lift so I didn't have to cut the body. Its alot more fun now. Look on my posting on the mods I did. You will like it.

Where are you driving your Senton? Make a huge difference in tire selection

@jondilly1974
Ultimately I will drive it at local BMX tracks. Semi loose dirt. I'm not racing it on carpet or whatever they use at a track.

@Senton Monster
I'm not concerned about larger too much since I'm just getting into the hobby. I mainly want to replace the stock tires even if they happen to be decent rubber and good traction overall. Just curious about what my options are.

I was looking at the Duratrax Six Pack MT tires
Are they 14mm?
Do I need to swap out the pinion gear to run these or are these the 2.2 x 3.0 stock size?

@jondilly1974 They make them but a lot are on back order. MT vs ST. ST will have a smaller diameter vs MT. Go with the st variants if you want to stay close to stock and go mt if you want the monster truck look. You could still always do the 12 or 17 mm swap as it would open up more options.

I didn’t know they sold belted versions now as well. How can they be this cheap? May have to try a set.

I saw that the other day and was wondering why it’s so cheap. There’s not much videos out there though, but I found this one

These look great, I'm on the back-order notification.

I’ve had the proline trencher HP Belted 2.8 (With removable hex) for dirt/grass and duratrax speedhawks for the street in the past. I now have the granite tires for dirt/grass and the proline street fighter 2.8 (with removable hex) for the street.

From my experience: the belted trenchers were great tires but were a little unnecessary for the senton.. the LP 2.8 version (Non belted) of the trenchers would be a better option. Although it looked badass, the tires were just too damn big, thus making the car handle poorly even with a savox high torque servo. This, is one major “con” you should consider when choosing to convert your senton to a 2.8 tire, as well as having to downsize your pinion, and trim your body or buy extended body posts. I’ve decided to trim my body, sacrifice the way the car handles, and buy a bigger motor to run the same 20t pinion because I can’t get over the look of the senton with monster truck tires ? The wheelies are addicting as well.

If you can find the granite tires, I definitely recommend them. They come with a 14mm hex, so no need to buy 12mm adapters or purchase the 14mm removable hex from proline just to run their tires (which by the way, you can only run the wide offset hex’s which give your senton crazy negative camber)

Yeah then their website is outdated. Here is what they show is compatible with the Senton Mega / 3S

@Papajohn, Your set up looks amazing! Not sure if I'm looking for a Monster truck style. If I do go that direction I'll certainly take all of this into consideration. I'm thinking of simply keeping to 14mm, no body modification, and good overall traction on loose dirt.

Yes, this is what I had found also. To be honest I found it disappointing that the manufacturer's site lacked specifications listed. Maybe it is somewhere hidden, but I can't find the sizes and when they are premounted there are no specs for the wheel.

Ya there website is definitely a pain to navigate and needs updated. I find the specs directly on horizon hobby’s site to be much more easier to access info from.
