New 1/8 MT from Associated! Looks interesting. Rival MT8

Ha, well we definitely have a different perspective on most things related to RC.
Agreed, I enjoy his channel, but don't base many decisions on his opinions. He's funny and a good torture tester, but I'll always choose your channel for relevant information and real world testing. Keep up the good work👌🍻
Kev disagrees strongly with you Razor... :ROFLMAO:
Not much survives his shenanigans TBH. He didn't like the Corally stuff either, I understand why, but I've thoroughly enjoyed my kronos xtr since I bought it. The issues I experience with my rc's (and my brothers) are never even mentioned by KT or any of the big air/huge senders on YT. I guess that's the byproduct of the fact that they don't do anything else with the rigs or use them for any real length of time like most in the real world.
They tend to run em a handful of times and move on, at least with what they publish on YT.

Yeah, it's because KT doesn't drive RC's he tortures them. The rest of us have to drive like we still have a budget, mortgages, and car payments :ROFLMAO:

Don't know how wealthy Razor is (frankly it doesn't matter), but he drives like i do--with at least some amount of caution. So that's why I watch his type of content.

I'm glad and grateful for both opinions, I just recently purchased an MT-8 based on Razor's video. I don't expect to drive it the same way I drive my Outcast 6s EXB.

So thank you both: @razorrc and Kevin T., you make the hobby more enjoyable and help others learn.

Anyone running a heatsink/fan combo on the MT-8? Which one do you recommend?

Just read this entire thread and watched many of the videos. I wanted an an MT10, but it was on back order when I was ready to buy.

Now I’ve got the itch for an MT8 but the comments about parts availability and how the brand quickly jumps in and out of models has me very gun shy.

Someone give me reassurance so I can go spend some money 😂.

FWIW…don’t see myself bashing hard but at least as hard as I’ve been able to run my BRCC through some 5 - 6’ footers. Love seeing that thing 12 - 13’ in the air and being able to do it repeatedly.
This is the other rig I’ve been watching…not sure if I’m quite ready to ‘build’ one yet since I’m noobish and just getting back into things.

Vets…looking to you for advice!

The MT8 doesn't seem to be selling as good as the MT10 so I don't really know if they will keep that, but since it shares a ton of parts with the Redcat Kaiju you shouldn't really worry too much. And with a lot of the big Youtubers saying how the MT10 is the best 1/10 monster truck it will sell very well and should stick around for some time I also believe there are a bunch of the Helion Avenge 10MT parts still floating around as well. Just in case you didn't know the Rival MT10 was first released back in 2016ish by Helion as the Avenge 10MT, then Helion went the way of the Dodo when Gill Losi Jr decided he wanted to go back to work for Losi.

Amain has the MT10 V2 for sale. I received mine Thursday. My understanding is the only difference between the MT10 and the V2 is body color

As far as I know that's all they changed, not really sure why they needed to call it a V2 though. They easily could have just been like oh hey new color available.

Be very careful with Fleabay, I mean Ebay. I've been burned before. The last purchase was good of an RC, but it was new. Before that, I bought a used 4s Typhon. After fixing everything that was wrong with it, it ended up costing more than a new one 😭

I am always sceptical when buying used cars anywhere I've been burned more on Facebook marketplace than on eBay though. Hell I've been burned more times on here than eBay as well.

Yeah I must admit that the last time I bought an RC in AF was pretty bad. The previous owner had messed up a whole bunch of stuff, wrong bolts used, busted bulkheads, etc. It was a lot of work to make that RC functional again 😭😭

Last one I bought had a bit of undisclosed damage as well, broken bulkhead, stripped diff, wrong sized screws and a couple of holes drilled in the chassis.

Yep, used is always a gamble if you can't at least put hands on it first. My first hobby grade rc, an RC10 gold pan I bought used from a neighbor. It was as good as could be expected, and sparked the fire for rc's in me that still burns 35+ years later😁👌
I got burned on an ebay auction for a freshly rebuilt and upgraded RC10GT about 10ish years ago..it had all the goodies(upgrades). I won the auction at $125!! I was stoked! Then, 2 days later seller emails and says they were "making final adjustments " to the truck before shipping when it was run over in a parking lot by a 1:1..🤨😤 yeah right!! Ended up settling on a Tmaxx they had for same money..well that was a worn out POS that still sits on a shelf to this day..
Got some redemption about a year later with a 15 year old Losi GTX that had been built and never fired..sat in a display case in someone's office for all those years, paid around $200 for it.
That was a pristine example, I broke in the motor, ran a handful of times and never touched again.. IMO nitro is dead, just doesn't compare to modern electrics for me. Too much hassle and noise.

Actually, the arms are super stiff. I think they were trying to address the Kaiju outdrive problem by removing most of the flex from the arms so that the driveshaft plunge doesn't overextend and smash into the outdrives (and break them). It's part of what contributes to the truck feeling very stiff/solid/responsive, like I noticed in my first run video. But this leads to other problems that I'll get into in the full review video... 🙄

I'll be honest, I only care about the wheelbase and usually mention it. All this 1/8 1/10 or whatever scale is nonsense, and you can always look up the specs on the website if you want to know more in detail. 🤷‍♂️

It jumps pretty flat/neutral. If you see me nose down when I'm jumping from the small jump on the left side straight into the bowl, it's because I'm matching the angle of the dive into the bowl. People probably don't realize this, but when I jump it from the left side down into the bowl, I'm actually trying to land it on the steep downramp into the bowl.

Kaiju body holes doesn't line up the same, they changed the mounting points on the MT8.
You can just about line it up! - body pegs need modding slightly to allow the body clips to locate but otherwise all good.

I love the OG Kaiju body myself. The MT8 body looks good too but..
I also like those tires, like to pick up a set at some point.. JRC, are ya listening? LOL

Yeah I like the Kaiju body. Makes it look kinda like a retro MT which I prefer. Tires are great but tore up both on the left side landing sideways off a ramp yesterday. Expensive mistake as they are directional so need 4 new ones!

Well that sucks!! One thing worth consideration with the wheels on both the MT8 and Kaiju is the little hexes along the outer portion of the wheels themselves. They can and will cut through the sidewall of the tires. I ground them off (carefully) of my Kaiju wheels after finding a couple small slices in the sidewalls. I used a die grinder with a cut off wheel.
This was brought up by @Megasty in the Kaiju mega thread.
I believe it's worth the time to remove those molded hexes myself.
Sorry for your loss, tires are expensive for these things, especially when you haven't gotten much use out of them☹

They hardly had much wear. They seem a good compound durability wise and gripped really well in most conditions but had a nice bit of slip when going sideways. I’ve noticed the sharp plastic fake bolt heads on the MT8 wheels. Thanks for the heads up. I might take my dremmel to them tonight - I’ve also applied more superglue to the surviving rims! On the torn ones It looks like the car landed left side down (possibly under acceleration trying to right it) and the power on 6S mixed with the surface conditions made it grab and tear off from the beading. Both are ripped in the same way. Driver error!

Glad to hear they work well for you. I haven't actually seen or used them but the tread pattern looks like it should be good as an all around tire. I think they'd be pretty good on the hard clay I run on most of the time. I really like the stock Kaiju tires too. A pretty good compound, not too soft, not too hard. The tread is good on loose terrain mostly. I've been running them in snow lately.. I vented them around the outside with a pencil tip soldering iron and hot glued the holes shut in the wheels. I've tried taping the wheels off but the tape always lets go..
I'd imagine the MT8 is just as nutty on 6s as the Kaiju. Have to be careful to not blow the tires off on 6s power!! LOL I run 4s most of the time, seems to be plenty for my use. I put a 4274 sized 2200kv in my Kaiju. Seems to be a better suited motor than the stock 4068 size 2100kv. The stock motor cogs alot, but never gave out.
With the larger can motor the truck is just much smoother at lower speeds.
