Arrma RC's
  1. Granite
I'm about to order a Granite BLX. My plan is to run it on 2s to learn handling skills. This will be my first RC car in +10 years.

While I certainly don't need the 3s right now in terms of power, the durability of the BLX sounds better than the Mega on 2s.

I have read some people buy 3S batteries and then use throttle control to temper the truck, but I'm wondering if just getting these two 2s batteries would be ok as a starting point or if I should just buy one 3s and go from there. I'm trying to stay under $150 for battery and charger. My head is spinning a bit, and your help is appreciated!

with this charger:

What kind of runtime would I get on those two batteries?

Is there another $150 combo that you guys recommend?

Good 3S option? (don't know about run time on this either, but I'd only buy one)

Those batteries have Deans plugs, which are junk. You will need to solder on new ones. Or pick packs with EC5 connectors.

SMC has a thread here where the owner replies. I would search him out and get a recommendation on which units he suggests. People have been having issues with SMC puffing and he says it’s due to low LVC.

On 2s using a battery adapter should be fine so just pick a brand of 2s on Amazon. I would try not to use an adapter if possible on 3s but I still do on some of my 60a and under escs. I picked up a couple of Goldbat 2s batteries from Amazon and so far I like them better than the Zeee 2s batteries I have.

I have had bad luck with Venom lipo batteries but hear good things about their chargers.

I would have a look at the HTRC chargers on Amazon (can be found cheaper on Ebay).

I only have one Ovonic 3s 5000mah battery but it packs a punch and seems to last awhile (I don't time my runs). Heres one with a EC5 connector https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L69B8V...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Thats what I came here to say. HRB, which Amazon sells, also has EC5 connectors.

Don't buy SMC lipos unless you like puffed batteries and a company that passes the buck on you with excuses.

If speed of charging isn't an issue for you, the Hitec RDX1 Pro has served me well, and is a sub $100 priced charger. https://hitecrcd.com/products/chargers/acdc-chargers/rdx1-pro-/product. I bought two only because I have more batteries and trucks now, but for one truck, would hold up well. HRB batteries from Amazon are good bang for the buck and come with a variety of connector options. Pair these two options and you should be able to stay in your budget.

Go 3s right away, you'll be bored with 2s real quick, besides it's all in the trigger finger, right? BTW, HRB batteries are good from my experience in my BR. Charge batteries the day you are going to use them. When you are done, Storage Charge all of them. Lipo batteries don't like being fully discharged or fully charged for long periods of time. 4 days is a long time! I follow these rules and I have 3 year old lipos that aren't puffed!

I'm new to the hobby too and from my research I bought the HTRC T240 DUO. What I like about it:
Charge 2 batteries at once.
Has storage and discharge charge options - Convenient for when you want to not use your batteries for a while.
AC AND DC input - Use your car battery to power the device and charge your battery (super convenient).
Comes with a ton of attachments to fit most batteries.
Easy to use touch screen.

My advice with batteries is get a 50c 2s and 3s battery. You will then have the option of using the 2s battery in another car that may only accept a 2s battery. 2s IMO is plenty fast anyway.
