First time diving into a roller. Currently have 6 other arrma's, all on stock motor. Just waiting on my motor and esc and we will see what she can do. Going with the castle 1717. What pinion should I start with?

I'd say 18-19 with those giant tires. You are going to have a ton of power compared to the stock BLX. A ton.

Was thinking about starting at 17. Too low?

Not at all especially if you are a novice.

Stock is 12T and I think that’s way too low. I believe 15T is the stock “speed” pinion, so that would probably be the floor I would recommend. 17T will probably be a great start.
