Notorious Notorious… slow Velo build (a comedy of errors)

Bummer. I don’t have any washers that fit. I managed to find some on Amazon and ordered them. I know that there’s another way of doing this, slick told me about a method with the thinner EXB Ackerman bar, but I’m going to try to use the stock shoulder screw with the flanged bearing and one or two of these 4x7x.08 washers. The M2C Ackerman bar is thicker then the EXB so I’m hoping it works. If it doesn’t work I’ll try again the other way. If that doesn’t work I’ll just go back to the bushings and call it a day.

I want ahead and assembled it just to see and I think this is definitely going to work. There is the slightest bit of play because of the small space between the bearing bottom and the top of the Ackerman bar. I think just one of those washers will take care of that.
Sweet!

They’re here! The stupid little washers are here so I can finish!

Okay, fits perfect. Should totally work 😃

It worked fantastic! Totally smooth and no play. So for the m2c Ackerman it’s the flanged bearing and one, .08 thick washer per side. I’ll try it with the basher queen Ackerman I got for the Kraton next.

I only had one difficulty here. I thought the little arrow should be pointing backwards towards the car for some reason that made complete sense. After 10 minutes and red faced cussing I figured out the little arrow should point forwards. Which makes complete sense also 🙄
Stupid arrow.

Man this thing freakin’ rips! And I’m only running it on 4s. It is much quicker than my new Kraton so I’m thinking that the punch was turned up by the previous owner. I got a spectrum program card so I need to figure out how to use it on all my cars.
Steering is excellent as well. Love the bearings in the Ackerman mod.

Yeah punch was set on 9 and I don’t need that much. 5 is good for now.

Can I ask where you got this?

Yeah, infidel67…but he hasn’t been around the Forum awhile now unfortunately.
It works amazing. Even has a little give (stainless steel, easy to bend back) on really hard landings which may help the 40x40x20 fan not die.

Those backflips on 4s make more sense now 😂
Embrace dah POWAH!
yeah 😂 haven’t had a chance to drive it since I reduce the punch and timing it’s been so damn hot. Starting to ease up though it seems, only going to hit 100f today in the rest of the weeks only going to be in the high 90s. Finally I’ll have a chance to test out the new fans I’ve been putting together.

Check these fans out, 40x40x28 and they seem to be built tough. I am very curious to find out how mag lev holds up as opposed to dual bearings. I’m wiring them directly to their own small 3s batteries on my 6s cars, or I can plug them into the balance lead if running on my 3S cars.

I also picked up one of the Cooler Guys brand 40x40x20 fans that was recommended by someone here on the forum. It has dual bearings. I’ll be comparing these fans over the rest of the summer to see which works/holds up best.

The mag lev fans push out 17 CFM and the cooler guys fan pushes 13 CFM.

I got this on Amazon for roughly $20 for my Mojave because it didn't come any fans and it would get ouchy hot (didn't have a temp gun). Now I run 20t with 2.8 belted Trenchers and the 1900kv runs around 120°F.

Got another one for the Kraton as well, but haven't had a chance to test it yet.

I’ve seen those and they look pretty nice…I just don’t want to run heat sinks anymore. I’ve been putting Powerhobby fan mounts on all my cars and working in the fans I mentioned before as I get them wired. Going to start testing them out today. Temperatures finally dropped below 100f and should be around 94f by the time we hit the park.

Here’s how I’m putting them together. I’ll wire/solder the 40x40x28 mag lev fans up tomorrow. I’m really curious how those hold up compared to the double bearing fan below.

Well the esc done burned up a couple weeks ago. It needed a good cleaning (still stinks like burnt electrics and plastic) cleaning, tuning, put in a new center diff, the new motor arrived today (Rocket 4076, 2250kv) and I’ll solder connections on the mm2 tomorrow. Love this sticker Tex made me! Feel like I joined some kinda Up in Smoke club. Can’t wait to get this thing out again! My first non RTR esc and I’m pretty excited.

😃 ITS…ALIVE!! Man, I really want to thank K-bash for selling me the MM2 and walking me through the process of hooking it up and getting everything in order. This is my first non-RTR yesterday. I always avoided breaking away from RTR electrics but this has made me want to upgrade all my cars electrics over the next year or so. I cannot wait to get this guy out!! I just need to finish securing wires and double check everything. I’m so excited. But it’s been raining and is super wet so I’m gonna hold off a bit more.

Only car left to redo is 4s Old Yeller, that I kinda broke in half a week ago 😂 well, I got one more. I’m going to ‘4s upgrade’ my Vorteks Thing, just like I did with Old Yeller. Except I’m gonna use V1, 4S arms so that I can use regular Granite shock towers and give her a more low slung feel. I think it’ll work and I have 70% of the parts together so far.

Wow… she runs beautifully! Even just on 4S there is a huge difference between the MM2 and the spectrum 150. The new 4076, 2250kv Rocket motor is powerful enough and runs cool with just a single 40x28 mm fan. I’m very happy yup 😊
