Arrma RC's
  1. Typhon 3s
  2. Typhon TLR
So, first build thread - a bit after the fact - lol.

My first RC was a Losi nitro Ten-T bought new way back in the day. After getting back into RC with my son and running his Typhon around I thought why not bust out the 10T.

That didn’t last long as I couldn’t get the damn thing to hold a tune, or run consistently. After dorking around with it for a couple days, I got the bright idea to just rip it apart and see what’s what.

This might the time to share that I have absolutely no clue what the hell I’m doing.

So, here we go:

Really nice progress! That whole chassis looks brand new!

Resized sleeve, polished piston, and new front and rear bearings thanks to RC Renew:

Ok, been a bit since I’ve updated so thought I would add a few pics and update progress.

Removed ROSS electronics and new servo’s installed:

It’s almost ready to go! I fired it up last weekend and the engine is solid!!

Having a few issues dialing in the throttle/brakes and carb settings, but think I have it pretty close now. Also have a Servo twitch on the throttle Servo which is annoying….still trying to figure that one out.

Hoping to break in the engine this weekend if the weather cooperates!

Oh yeah, I picked up a 2nd pretty cherry Ten-T with a working 3.4 for super cheap on eBay last week as well :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I have enough extra parts to finish this one as well, but might convert it to electric..

Well - I got her running today and was in the last stage of the engine break in, right when the engine was starting to smooth out. Then, the electronics starting going all wonky, loosing connection, and lots of servo/throttle glitches, etc.

Luckily the fail safe worked, she almost ran away from me once, but I was able to get it to brake.

Not sure if I my receiver is going wonky (it’s the OG receiver, so it’s OLD). Or the batteries in my Tx are weak. Will test again tomorrow, if it’s the receiver, it’s kinda time to upgrade it anyway - lol.

The good news is the engine seems to be dialing in well, just hope having to stop in the middle of break in doesn’t hurt it.

Interesting. Did you ever try a glitch buster? I’ve got one, just haven’t had a chance to try it yet.
No, I opted to switch to Futaba gear instead. I've bought a 4PM transmitter to take advantage of the telemetry, and that they'll store up to 40 models. I'm in the process of getting enough gear to outfit my collection, but I haven't set up any of the Losi vehicles yet(an 810 and 2 Ten-T's) The last glitch cost me a spur gear for the 810 and I had to find a replacement in the Philippines.

Ouch - yeah the spur gear is an $$ one and a pain to find. I ran into that as well.

Nice - Futaba’s definitely a step up - lol.

It turns out my electronics going wonky was due to my Tx batteries being low. I still have a little servo glitching on my throttle servo (eco - amain servo). I might try the glitch buster or just run a BEC so I can use a lipo rx battery instead of a LiFE.

I ended up converting my 2nd Ten-T to electric and love it! It’s kinda my go to car right now, just a blast to bash around with.

I'm all too familiar with the low battery situation. I've set the new transmitter so I get a low voltage warning for the reciever battery pack and also setup the " out of range" settings to hopefully avoid future expensive experiences.

That electric conversion is awesome! I'm definitely going to have to do that to my second truck.

Great post! I currently have 2 Team Losi 3.4 engines but no good starter motors so this will be handy, thank you for posting this lol

You got the traxxas back plate and machined it to match the dimensions off the 3.4 engine backplate in relation to the shaft hole correct? I am assuming apart from buying the traxxas 3.3 backplate, one way bearing and pull start there is nothing else required to go from ROSS to pull start?

Hey - yes, that is correct. You’ll need the traxxas back plate, one way bearing, and pull start.

You’ll need to machine down the traxxas plate to make clearance for the piston back skirt. Basically, you’re machining down this part of the traxxas back plate.

It was actually easier then I thought to be honest and the fit is pretty dead on, no additional modifications were needed. If you need to get the sleeve pinched, I sent mine off to RC-Renew and they turned it around in less than a week!

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.
