It was 82 out and barely got warm with the 18t 🙂 I just scored a 130amp off Jenny’s, The same one that I’ve been running in my granite and vorteks that I love so much. Can’t wait to put that in!
I have a Firma 130A ESC in my Typhon 3s that I put in when I upgraded the stock motor to a Surpass 3670/2850. I got that ESC from Ebay as a takeoff from a new Axial Ryft.

Yeah there are a couple cars on Jenny’s that have them at 54 an 57 bucks and I’ve managed to get three of them so far. Just need one more for my wife’s big rock lol. She showed a bit of jealousy the other day, asking if I was going to fix her car up just like I am my three. Of course I am 🤣 how could I not?

I’m going to try a new motor in this beastie. Rocket 3670, 3050 KV. Little bit faster than the 3674, 2509 kv motor that’s in there now. Think I’ll try a 16t pinion at first then a 17 if needs it.

Okay, she is no longer a typhon. Nor a big rock. She’s her own kinda 1/10 critter this one is. I am nearly done and will test drive later today. Just need the LWB dirt protector things due in soon and I ordered a better TBone bumper (see pic). They have this super wide completely straight ‘wide basher rear bumper’ for the rear of the typhon. I’m going to use it for the front. It should protect the wide and flat front end quite well. I hope. I’m gonna turn the body mounts around also. I mounted it a bit forward and don’t like the way the rear wheels fit with the wells.

I decided to start with a 17t pinion. With the new motor being 3050 KV, that should be good? My only concern is I got a Traxxas piñata that is 32dp. I’m on my research I understand that 32 DP in .08 mod or simply imperial vs metric Measurements, but it doesn’t seem to match with the spur as good as the .08 mod Pinon. It’s an older spur so no big deal if it strips.

With a 130 amp ESC and surpass 3070, 3050kv I could easily run it 4s. But I’m going to stick with 3S until I upgrade the differentials to metal. Guess I need to do the spur… and get CVDs… yeah, hell with all that I’m keeping it 3S. I’ve got a Notorious that I need to finish 🙃

Had an absolute blast on the first run today! This truck is just perfect 3s for me. Perfect long wheel base I mean. My Vorteks thing is the perfect short wheel base. The motor never got over 113°F without a fan, esc 108° …it was about 75 today, running it pretty hard and wide open across the park field.

I tried to turn the AVC off while putting it together but it ended up on, and it’s dialed in perfect somehow. So I put it at around 45-50% and I absolutely love it. Just works with my style of driving somehow. And I didn’t have any trouble going from Yeller to the Vorteks thing, which does not have AVC on.

And these power hobby tires are fantastic! Way better than the Raptors that had stripped out a wheel hex on me recently. These are 17 mm so I’m sure that stronger than the power Raptors 14mm.

Just waiting on the dirt skirts, which are badly needed, and the better front bumper.

I flipped the body mount posts to set the body back a bit and put a stock big rock bumper/wheelie bar on back. Looks better to me now and the stock wheelie bar should function better then the closer set TBone bumper. I still need to trim/clean up the rear body area. The side dirt guards will be here Monday and then I’m done with this one 😃
Except for lights perhaps…

Put on a new front bumper this morning. It is actually a TBone rear bash bumper for the 3s typhon but I needed more protection for the wide and flat front end. It fits great. I also put on a granite rear bumper and trimmed up the body to fit it. Also installed the Powerhobby fan mount and 40mm apex fan.

I bent the rear turnbuckles badly so replaced them with Traxxas ones I’d gotten a year back for another project. I drove it hard today jumping rock piles at the park and had many bad landings. The Traxxas turn buckles are holding up decently. One is slightly bent but pulled back easy enough. I’m still impressed with this jconcepts body as well. Multiple roof landings and it’s barely scratched.

Yeah those Traxxas links are the skinny ones. They didn’t work, bent like spaghetti 🍝 So I got new ones as recommended. They are definitely beefier and fit perfectly (I did use a small washer at the tower connection).
Had a good run today and they are still straight. Sweet.

CNC diff and CVDs for the rear. I’ll leave the front stock for now.

The body needed a bit of reinforcing behind the cab and a notorious 6s roll bar fit perfect!

Hey @Velodromed,

Are those big rock body post, I'm sure you mentioned it some where but I couldn't find it.

Thinking about converting my Senton in to some sort of Monster truck thing like this one.

Are you running Typhon arms right, broke a turnbuckle on my typhon and I think I'm going to replace it with the Traxxas version.

Thanks.

Yup, big rock body posts. The Traxxas turnbuckles are great so far and yes, typhon/big rock rpm arms.

I put an Arrma metal diff and CVDs in yesterday and could feel an immediate change with power to the ground. I also removed the +10 hot racing hex and put on new M2C +5 hex. I know that the additional 5 mm on the hot racing exes make those CVD axles prone to breakage. I’m watching to see if it is closely because I’ve heard they can separate with the longer typhon arms, but it looks like there’s plenty of contact in the slider. So perhaps it’ll be no big deal. I’ve got a hot racing metal spur going in next.

I also put bearings in the wheelie bar wheels, GPM shock Tower braces and a 6S notorious rollbar to strengthen the body where it connects to the cab.

I decided that over the rest of the year I’m going to upgrade this truck to full 4s platform, including 4s arms, cvds etc. I already got a 4S capable ESC and motor. With the metal drive train and CVDs it just makes sense to complete the transformation. This is one of my favorite cars to drive after all.

Went to the park earlier before the heat hit hard but could only run the car for 10 minutes before my kid started complaining about hitting the neighborhood pool. There were no other kids around so I decided to have some fun 😂

I am hoping that a small 2s lipo hooked up directly to the rocket fan helps control the temperatures on this motor. Newfound soldering skills put to the test with success! Love the 2.1 mm aperture screen that I got as well.
