Opening the diffs on the Kraton V3 soon to add 50k/500k/30k (front/center/rear) based on various threads in this forum. Would have liked to try 200k for the center but it seems to be about as common as albino unicorns lately.

Anyway, I don't plan on shimming the diffs at this point and would rather take a wait and see approach. The question is, will I be able to tell if the diffs actually need shimmed based on vehicle performance or characteristics, short of them actually blowing up?

When you hear the clicking, that is a sign you should have shimmed them a few batteries ago... :)

Assemble them after you clean them before you add oil. Hold one outdrive and slowly / carefully spin/rock the other. Is there any slack? If yes, shim. Is there a slight knotch at each tooth? Probably about right? Feels very rough? Too tight, remove a shim or two. Once you get it right, add fluid and install in the car. Before you close the case, hold the diff right, and slowly spin / rock the diff input cup. Feel any slack? Add a shim on the ring gear side bearing.

It is not hard, Good Luck!
