Hi All
I wanted to share my custom suspension setup for those of you, who like me, may be running a extra heavy O8S and are looking to improve things for high jump landings. I have a bashplate installed, Pro-line MX43 badlands wheels and tires and the Mamba Monster 2028 1100KV - all of which add allot of wheight to my truck. With batteries it now weighs 15.5KG (34.2lbs)!
Firstly I bought a set of shocks from the Kraton 8s EXB with the thicker and stronger shock arms. The stock shock springs that come with these are rated with a spring rate of 2.21N/mm (12.62lb/in). I tried running them on my rig but I still found landings from high jumps felt very hard and the truck was bottoming out and I was breaking stuff. Next step, I did a ton of reading online and found a place that had a set of springs that I was hoping would work. They are nearly the exact same size as the original springs but have a spring rate of 4.2N/mm (24.00lb/in). I received them yesterday and am happy to report that they fit like a glove on the EXB shocks. I took the truck out and did several high jumps at speed today and I am very happy with the results. My truck feels allot lighter on its feet and landings are MUCH softer and more controlled. High speed cornering seems unaffected and I had no rollovers at all. Best of all my a-arms and turn buckels stayed in tact and I dare to say I think this upgrade is going to help me save allot on parts that will hopefully last much longer.
I am no expert but I highly recommend to try this setup guys. The only negative thing I have found thus far is that the front end tends to lift a bit more under heavy acceleration, but I don’t mind this as a trade off for the increased suspension give.
I am attaching some pictures of my setup here.
cheers!
