Arrma RC's
Howdy Arrma bashers & enthusiasts!!
I want to mention a couple of things...

(1) My OutCast had a battery failure that caught fire & totaled my lil truck.
Please kids of all ages, follow all of the battery safety instructions!
The lipo fire is chemical, you can’t put it out with water, you need a class D fire extinguisher (please confirm on your own) tho I used Baking Soda.

Don’t leave your car on the rug with the batteries plugged in!
Charge them in a lipo bag!
And store them in an ammo box...
I just want to tell y’all to pay attention to the battery/charger manual!
And prevent a potential tradgedy!!

(2) I never thought any company would honor a warranty on an r/c car.
But, WoodiE suggested I try, that Arrma was quite good with warranties, & I’m glad I followed his advice!

I’ve dealt with first Kathy, then Nick on some minor issues...
And they were great!
Then after my OutCast burnt, I was helped by Tyler, who okayed the replacement of my OutCast!
And finally Todd, following up!

They all treated me so well!
I wanted to thank each of them & to thank Horizon Hobby for honouring the warranty!
I sent them a few pictures, a copy of my bill of sale, & now have a brand new Arrma OutCast which arrived at my door, in Canada about a week or so ago!

I think I’m so used to poor service, that I almost didn’t even try for warranty...
So I am very impressed & really appreciate the great customer service at Horizon Hobby!
Thanks again, Kathy, Nick, Tyler & Todd!!

Thanks & have fun, but listen to old RJP & treat them Lipo batteries with care & respect!

Oh man, should at least put up a warning for a "disturbing image" up ahead lol. But that's great that Arrma honors their warranties. More reasons to love the brand.

That sucks that it happened but it's awesome that they replaced the vehicle. Did you have any aftermarket parts on it and do you have to send the charred one in to them or do you get a few spare parts out of the deal?

Spare parts?! Lol. Did you see the picture??

Lol yeah I did. The rims, tires, rear A arms, rear shocks and wheelie bar still look good. I'm guessing the rear axles, differential, rear hubs, rear turnbuckles and shock tower are still good and maybe rear differential case. The chassis may be salvageable too if you scrape all the melted stuff off.

Hey fellers...!
Well, I did get to keep the burnt truck.
But I think shipping from Canada helped.

The only aftermarket parts were lower front control arms, and the steering servo.
I did tell them it had a different servo, savox I think...

I think there may be some usable pieces left, but not much that wasn’t metal.
But ChevyZR knows his stuff!
There may be a few more parts than I thought...

Thanks for the kind words!
Thank you again Arrma for the great warranty coverage!

Sorry for your loss... glad you are getting it replaced but really glad .. you, your home and family are all okay.... remember it can always be worse

That's a terrible and frightening event. Please share what brand of battery, capacity, cell count, and the charger you are using. Also, if you had any adapters for battery connectors. This may help others on the forum. Glad that you were not harmed, and your truck was replaced.

Hello Ebaltazar!
Pleased to meet you!

Yes, I would like my experience to alert our RC vehicle friends about the possible danger.
But, I don't want to give a bad rating of the brand.
I have weird luck, bad luck, with luckily not so bad outcomes.

I bought the OutCast & the charger & batteries at the same time.
The Onyx 245 charger came with two batteries & the XT90 connectors.
The batteries were two 3-S 5400mah, 11.1 volt.

The reason I was hesitant to name Onyx, is because I am satisfied with the quality & operation of the charger & batteries.
I think the damage occurred due to the possible inherent danger of LIPO Batteries and the punishment they endure on RC vehicles, especially on vehicles such as the "OutCast" which is marketed as a Stunt Truck.

I am using the same charger, and I bought the same batteries to replace the burnt ones.

So, unlucky that the little truck went up in flames...
But, lucky it burnt on the pavement, and not in the house, nor the backyard which was full of dry leaves!
Unlucky it caught fire, lucky no one was hurt, & nothing wrecked except the OutCast!
And lucky that my neighbours had a friend over who was a fireman...

I'm still using the same type of Onyx Batteries & the same charger I bought with the OutCast, the Onyx 245.
And I would still recommend them...
But I also recommend that you use a Lipo Bag & Ammo can to charge & store your batteries.
Unplug them after the bashing is done.
It may be a little hassle to remove the batteries each time, but it's cheap insurance.

Ok, I hope all y'all are having a great Summer!
A fun, awesome, safe Summer!!

I actually built and flew Heli's for years before diving into Arrma. I've dealt with Horizon Hobby many times with warranty parts and other issues. They are one..... if not the best, RC customer service specialist. Soooooo, easy to talk and deal with. Glad to hear they have not changed.
Class act Horizon & Arrma!!

So did the fire (RIP Outcast) occur after running the truck with the Onyx lipo’s left sitting connected to the truck or what was the scenario? Running hard non stop / multiple packs?

I would love to know because I have 2 full Onyx completer packs that have the same charger and lipo’s that I use to run my Outcast? I don’t want my baby to burn. I finally have it all repaired and ready to roll but only did a quick run up and down the street jumping the speed bumps the other day. Now it has been sitting in my living room waiting for a chance for a real bash when work and weather allows.

Prior to me finally repairing my Outcast a couple weeks ago, it has not been ran all summer due to waiting for the parts from Horizon which were on backorder for quite a while. I’ll add that all the parts I needed were sent to me by Horizon and warranty was honored just really took quite some time due to backordered parts.
