Hey Arrma nation.

Installing the hobbystar 4092, 1730kv, Max6 ESC into my Talion EXB. Not a speed runner, just general bashology.
What pinion would you recommend? I have a 17 and a 20 kicking around. I will be running a fan on the motor.

cheers,
kev

I run the same setup in my noto on 20t with 2 4028 fans. Tried smaller but the car felt boring and slow. But watch temps on 20t on hawe some good fans kicking, and you will enjoy it a lot

For 1650kV an 18T is the golden ticket. I'd go with 17T.
Watch your temps and see how it feels. If it stays within reason, you can always gear up.
Start small and work your way up, cheaper than burning stuff up from the get go.

I am running a 19t with my leopard 1730kv on the talion EXB with one rocket fan and stays cool

I agree with @jkflow 👆🏼 Stay around 18t to be safe. It’s all where and how you bash. I run 22t and 23t in my Kraton and kraton EXB. I don’t run when it’s smoking hot outside and watch my temps! Mostly flat street/dirt bashing and some big sends. What works for some, may not work for others!🤷🏻‍♂️

I put an 18 on it and runs lovely. I do have a fan on the motor.

Great choice!

Perfect. I got two 40x28 fans for this bad boy. Hopefully my Traxxas pinion doesn’t get shredded 😂

As far as I know. Traxxas have two types of mod 1 metal pinions. The very cheap ones, which are generally made to be used with plastic spur and stock power. These are not that strong. Monkey metal as some like to say.

I've destroyed one if these in an Arrma Kraton. (Used what I had laying around.)
Id recommend to get a better quality one. Like a Tekno, which are better metal and uses a larger set screw than most.

Traxxas also have a better type pinion. Machined and costing twice as much. Black in colour. These are better suited for use with metal spur gears and high power.

You are probably ok if its this type.

Yeah it’s just what I had laying around. It was pulled from an Xmaxx. Already have a 16t and 18t Tekno Pinion on order from AMain. Took it out for a quick rip and it held up so far.

I'm just going to ask my question here rather than starting another thread..!! 😉

What is the stock pinion size for a V4 Talion ??
