I have a hitec x2 ac plus and I'm trying to find a good ac to dc power supply to get more power out of it. Running off dc you get 200w total power instead of 100w total on ac power. I think I need a power supply that's atleast 25 amp output. Any recommendations would be great. Not trying to spend over a 100 bucks.

I have this one too, for my 2x300w charger. Small and quiet. My only complaint, I wish it had an on-off switch.

Also, if you have an old dead PC stashed away, you can salvage the old power supply. A 300w ATX power supply can make about 200w on the 12v bus, and conversion is pretty easy.

However, I never used that one. Before I got my DC charger, I found a 500w ATX that could make about 350w @ 12v, and I used that PS instead. Now I use the converted server PS, from SMC.

Yeah a power switch would be nice, but for the price I can't really complain. I really would like an adjustable voltage supply with a switch on each output and an amp meter.....but I don't want to spend $200+ on a power supply LOL.
 
Just connect it to a power strip, or take it apart and put in an AC power switch before the transformers.

Or, get a more powerful AC charger. I have the dynamite 4x100W/4x10A charger and it's really nice. Then use the hitec one out when you bash off 12V car battery.

Been using it for 16 months without issue. Was around $200 and I had to get adapters for traxxas connectors and a couple more balance boards. I also got 6s extensions to make it easier to deal with for where I have the charger.

I know you wanted to spend $100 or less, but just thought I'd mention it in case you were planning for future growth.

I recently got a cheap HTRC charger to use while out bashing off 12V. Seemed a bit sketchy and thought it was broke after my buddy plugged his packs in, the plugged the charger in. It caused one of the channels screens to lockup on a weird hardware version screen I never saw. I fiddled with it for an hour on AC power, pushing holding buttons, plugging it in, unplugging, finally, it booted up correctly. We used it last weekend to charge off 12V in my car all day long, probably 20 cycles and it worked great.

It also does 12A per port on AC as I had tested that out before installing it in my car.

I didn't like plugging/unplugging it repeatedly off 12V in my car as it also doesn't have a power switch. My main charger inside is plugged into a power strip, I use the switch on the strip for it anyway. I took the HTRC apart and installed a 40A switch into the DC input line so I could keep it plugged in my trunk, my battery is in my trunk. I ran 12AWG line to the battery with proper terminals on the ends vs alligator clips. I figured it's pulling at minimum 24A when charging 2 packs, so I should make sure it has good connections and solid wire to avoid issues.

The switch looks retarded, but there's literally no other space inside the charger to handle the leads sticking in. If I had been thinking, I would have bought an inline switch and put it in the power wire instead. Live and learn.

I tried finding an AC charger, but I couldn't find one that was as powerful as I was looking for, so I went with a DC charger.
 
Actually, the power supply unit SMC is selling is a refurbished PC. Bego Racing, SMC's distributor in Canada, besides selling SMC batteries (which are in stock by the way), also have a good price on power supplies for RC's. It is 75 amps, 900w & price is only $55.99 Canadian. Bego Racing's description is more detailed than SMC's description, as it is almost the same power supply. They look cool with the carbon wrap and can power up to 3 12v DC devices at once. They are quite compact and have an auto regulated fan. If I was in the market for a new power supply, I would definitely look at one of these.

I hope that link works.I will give it a try and see what it can do. Has more than double the amperage output over the power supply at my lhs for a lower price.

I agree, it looks almost the same, & was probably made by the same manufacturer. These refurbished PC power supplies are good prices, even compared to Hobbyking. Hobbyking does have a 1080w & a 1200w power supply, and "only" 50-60amps max, with prices ranging from $150-$250. If you want a power supply with somewhere around 16a/240w,or 23-25a/350w, or even 30a/540w, prices are between $34-$72 at Hobbyking, but anything higher for watts/amps,looks too expensive at Hobbyking.

There are quite a few 100W x 2 ac/dc chargers out there. Surprised you couldn't find one.

I've been looking for a 200W x 2, not sure why though as charging 1C is usually the most healthy for lipo's, so more than 10A per port is usually too much. I just keep an eye out for one regardless in case the one in my car does end up freaking out on me and dies. It's a 150W x 2 which is more than your trying to get out of your hitec on DC.

My Hitec is 700W x 2 and does 30 amps per channel.

Or did you mean to direct this at Erstadw?

Yep. I did. Sorry about that.

At 30A per port, you could parallel charge 6 packs at 10A! That would be handy.
I actually charge 6, 5000mah packs at 5 amps each on each channel. So 12 at a time total. Lol. Really cuts down on waiting for batteries to charge to go out to the field. I don't charge over 1C myself.
 
Both my chargers are 20amps each, but I only charge at 1C myself. I have 2 paraboards, so I do use more than 10amps many times when charging (example: two 7000mAh Lipos need 14amps when charging in parallel). Also it never hurts to have a charger that can do more than you need now, as sometimes your charging requirements can change over time.

Dual port chargers were quite expensive a few years ago, and many used the same screen which I did not like as much, so I ended getting a 20a/300w single port charger, which was a lot less expensive to do at the time. After a few years with a more RC's and more Lipos to charge, I got another 20a/300w single port charger, and this way I upgraded later when I really needed to. This is where parallel charging comes in handy, as I can charge multiple batteries on a single port charger.

With the space I have at home, the 4 channel worked out well. If I had known about parallel charging a year ago, I probably would have gone with a higher power 2 channel. Especially now that I'm more than likely going to stop using the SMC 9000mah 2S packs and stick with their 7400 2S packs for all my trucks. With 2x30A, could charge 8 of the 7400's at a hair over 1C.

Although, with the charger in my car now, I probably won't have a need to charge so many packs at once and the 4 port will still suit me fine.

I agree. The Hitec X2 AC Plus can run out of power quite quickly, and when on AC it is only 100w total for both ports combined. I've always thought the Hitec X2 700 looks like a great charger. I also like the Hitec X2 400, which shows a discounted price at A Main Hobbies. The Hitec X2 400 is 400w per port (800w total), so it would meet most people's needs and is over $60 cheaper. I was looking at the turnigy reaktor chargers as well.
I believe the firmware update is available on hitecs website. On the website it strongly urges you to make sure the firmware is up to date on that charger before using it for LiPO batteries. If you don't update the firmware I believe I read you could have an issue with a lipo battery catching fire.
