COPPERHEAD Build [w/ 3D Printed Parts]

It's my first official build thread so please bare with me..
Too many ideas rattling in my head AND too Many photos to take & sort through to have it all make sense initially, but I hope it'll be understandable and entertaining.

Most of all the parts will be custom designed and 3D printed by me (unless noted otherwise). I know there'll be a Ton of trial & errors with my designs and prints.. So please be patient.

Preface:
As all of you may already know -All of ARRMA's 3S & 4S models [no matter the type of body shell - truck/truggy, either the SWB or LWB] are all based off of a Buggy chassis..
Meaning all of them ends up using those "stubby" Short shocks on the front suspension.

I know GPM offers a "Front Damper Mount" which provides a few different shock mounting holes/positions, however it still doesn't really allow for you to install a taller shock to achieve greater suspension travel...

My plan is to come up with a functional kit that will allow me to install long stroke dampers in the front suspension -to be able to do so as a drop-in solution, with minimum (to no hacking/cutting/drilling) of the OEM chassis.

Referece:
Stock front shocks for the Senton, Granite, Typhon, Big Rock Crew Cab Mega and BLX 3s are 100mm eye to eye.
Stock rear shocks for the Senton, Granite, Typhon, Big Rock Crew Cab Mega and BLX 3s are 115mm eye to eye.
Stock front shocks for the 4s models are 106mm eye to eye.
Stock rear shocks for the 4s models are 121mm eye to eye.

Project Goals:
(Since my first introduction to ARRMA is the Granite truck..)

I plan to design & produce custom-
1. XL Front shock tower adapter,
2. CF tower to tower brace, (in Single, Double, Triple configurations)
3. Roof Winglet,
4. Wheelie bar Wheels
5. Rollbar (modular with lightbar attachment)
6. Mudguards (for suspension arms)
7. Tailgate Protector (with replaceable wing lips)
8. Spare wheel mount & other 'scaled' accessories
9. TBA

In no particular order.. just whenever I can get them 3D designed and printed / tested.

What I'm starting out with >
A pre-owned Granite V2 4x4 BLX
Previous owner already upgraded the servo to a Savox SC-1258TG
Everything else is OEM stock.

I've swopped out the STX2 transmitter & SRX200 for a SLT3 & SLR300 receiver, since these photos were taken.

.
First things first, strip it all down and give it a good cleaning.. Take some more reference photos and then take some measurements.

Starting at the rear of the RC truck..

1st 3D designed part - Wheelie Wheel

Copperhead Wheelie Wheel.jpg

my goto 3D program - Sketchup
This actually is the 7th iteration of the wheel..

The shapes of the spokes are suppose to resemble stylized copperhead snake heads...

Those mean looking "snake head" spokes turned out looking more like Pokémon hearts.... damn it 😢

Wheelie Wheels Installed..

1. Remove the old mangled ones.
2. Retain the OEM plastic bushings and long screws

3. Install new printed wheels using the original bushing & screw.

Back to factory fresh.. ready to wheelie!

I'm wanting to achieve that Baja Trophy Truck vibe or Overland look on my ARRMA Granite by being able to mount a spare tire to the tailgate... Preferably WITHOUT having to cut/hack the body shell.

Such as -

So, I'm working on a custom hitch that will replace the stock bumper of the Granite to allow for independent mounting of a wheel to achieve this look.

I redesigned the Hex adapter -made it a tad longer to get the spare tire away from the body and bulk up the mount portion so it'll take a bit more abuse..

Used a standard M4 x 40mm bolt & nut to mount the wheel securely.

Turned out pretty decent, IMO.

Thank you, sir!

I've got some more wicked designs coming. ;)

.

nice are you going to sell these?

Thank you.

Currently, I'm making these for a couple of friends who have Granites..
If there's enough interest... I'm willing to consider it.
