So I got a promodeler 930 in my Kraton and it has been a great servo. Today it didn’t quit but it lost a lot of power. Anyone had experience with cleaning or rejuvenating these servos?

Try using a 2s lipo plugged directly into a receiver with no ESC plugged in, and test with remote to see if the power is back. If this works it means your ESC BEC has given up the ghost. If this doesn't work, the servo may have more serious problem.

How were you powering it? Its a hungry servo. Has an interesting few * in the product listing.
  • Not recommended for BEC use
  • Not recommended for X-MAXX
  • Not recommended for bashing
So I can never use it, haha

To the OP:

If it lost power and you have not reconfigured anything i'd say your internal/external BEC may have taken damage or been overworked. Or the servo itself is on its way out.

Slap it in another vehicle or my way would be to toss it on a servo tester with a external power source. It's what I do with my plane and heli servos if I suspect anything wonky. Cant have a servo going bad on a $3k heli in mid air. Using a servo tester, sperate BEC, and battery pack will eliminate all doubts and find the issue.

Beat me to it, and it doesn't require extra hardware the user prolly doesn't have like my servo tester. haha, good call!!

Running a servo that wants over 7 amps on a BEC that can't hack it is a good way to kill the BEC eventually.
haha I just looked that servo up. 930oz/in is like 70kg yeah a bit much for an internal bec to handle. I wonder what ESC is being ran.

I always try to spread the good word of the external BEC or receiver pack for servos but most people never listen and insist on running 10 amp servos on 4 amps BECs.

I ran it of the MAX6G2 at 8.4 and it worked perfectly for almost a year. I’ve tried using separate BEC’s and the results were way less than the trouble. Same with a separate battery. That’s just been my experience with the 930. I have a 635 and for some reason it doesn’t last either way I wire it. I’ll try it with a clean battery. The internal BEC could be failing. I have abused the system no doubt!

Related or not, not sure. My max6 just died, seemingly related to a mosfet or bec failure per initial diagnosis by HW. HW has it now for hands on diagnosis, so will see in a week or so. But was running a puny 30kg servo by comparison. If it turns out to be the bec related, some added vindication for @cancelthefuture
I don't like external receiver packs either, but only because Im lazy. Not opposed to wiring in a bec if warranted, unless im near the bec rating - like that 930 is - I don't wanna be bothered. Will see if HW changes my mind with the result.

Max6 G2 is one of the only BECs included in any ESC I would say is up to the task of 930 actually.

I just put an 1155 promodeler back in without a BEC and it works like a champ. I’ve personally never had an internal BEC go out. I’ve ran stand alone BEC’s with this servo and all it did was add weight and more places for stuff to come loose while bashing. I just want the tires to turn

I wouldnt have expected an issue with the max6 unless you locked the saver.
But the odds of there being a stock firma 150 in there was high. And that would be asking for trouble with a 930.
Oh yeah I wouldn’t put it on a stock ESC. The servo is the only thing running on the BEC as well. I run fans off the main battery 2-40 mm Hyperflow to keep it cool. The 930 is a great servo and for less than a Raw 500 which is another good servo. Perfect Pass is really good too. A good servo that whips the tires around makes a huge difference.

Will that servo tester work with a 2s lipo?

I use the CellMeter8 to test servos personally and it's perfectly happy with 2s.

Yeah, you can get 4 packs of those off amazon for like nothing free shipping. If you have direct powered, it with a 2s then I'd say mine will allow it to. This one linked also shows on the input side 4.8-6v so a 2S is going to be too much. But again, if you've done it on that one mine would def be fine as well.
