Purchase a Talion EXB RTR from a user here for a great deal. It was not his, so the previous owner loved the water. None of the damage is critical, mostly all surface. However, it is taking some more to get it back right. Screws are easy to replace, but some parts got damaged in the process, including outdrives, diffs, motor, etc. Hey, the fun of the hobby is wrenching :)

I plan to keep to very stock....so it will not be a bling-bling build, but I will try to add some pop and smart upgrades where I can!

What I do have on-hand to swap:
M2C shock stand-offs
M2C droops screws
M2C shock support brace
M2C hub pillow balls
M2C outdrives
**not needed MC2 Hex extenders. On all my 6S rigs like the look\stance

Let the fun (work begin)
Rusty screws replaced, or rust removed, deanodize some EXB parts and/or replaced parts, sand dents and the huge gashes in the upper and lower arms...

1667418484321.png

More work:

Motor cleaned, bearings replaced, got a new 15T pinion to toss the other bad one above
1667418675521.png

1667418701289.png

Tossed the center diff above as well
All outdrives are eaten or chipped in some way. All are being replaced with M2C
1667418882247.png

Will start on the rear. Remove the shock mount and deanodize it

Looking good, hope you're having fun man. I love the Talion. Nice job on the arms and towers dude!!

Which lye based product are you using for de-anodizing? Looks great man.. cool how the exb etch looks after the parts are stripped..😎
Hey Brother

Using Pure Lye get it locally anywhere. It just so much faster to add water to a bucket and some of this. Mask and timing is key...smell can be strong and too long can eat the metal.

Last I use metal paste and Mothers a dereml buff it to a shine. On this project, not going for shiny as with other project. So not doing the paste or buffing. Just the lye and a little Mothers for a rough rag polish and done for this rig.

Dude. I just did the exact same thing with the same model used truck. Pretty sure that the one I bought was never cleaned. Ever. But, I got a pretty good deal on it. Took forever to go through. The plan with mine is to build a light speedrun truggy. We already have all the tank bashers we need. Yours is looking good. PS Got any pancakes?

Thank you Sir.... What's pancakes or that just went over my head,

Ahhh, yes, well that will surely get it done in a timely fashion..😉.. definitely time sensitive with any lye and aluminum, turns a lovely black doesn't it ..🤣🤣..

Something you may want to try is blue magic polish, goes a very long way and may allow you to lower the process to one step.. it's great stuff..👍.. Just be forewarned that it has ammonia in it, so don't use it in a small space with no ventilation..

One negative about a rebuild project that I am learning....the undiscovered. Working on the shock and all front pistons are bent. Back to Amain or JRC for more parts...just takes time with the mail as we all know how that is. My LHS has nothing for Arrma....Traxxas. @Jeppyjep let fam know he holds true to Arrma...he can bash'em

Thanks for the tips on cutting the M2C shock mounts came out good with the dremel. I just staged it not tighten yet.

Now next another order. I will not use any of the electronics on the rig!! They work but I do not trust them all that much.

Bent piston(s)

I did manage to clean the rust off all them they are badly scratched but it's all good. I will get some mud guards for the rear

More fun once I get parts :)

Waiting on parts so to keep moving need to jump ahead of the track...

So, let me move to the electronics. Soldering....not my favorite but getting the hang of it! I found the EC5 (no smart wire) are easy for me to work with cost more. I found a new video for the blue IC5 worked better with a hotter iron I just bought.

Question: My Talion is all in parts so I cannot test to see. How tall can I go on my ESC? With it all apart I cannot tell if this 40mm tall fan will go under the body without hitting

  • ALZA Racing Max 6 mount. Across seas so glad I bought more back in 2021
  • HW Max6
  • Radio Control Power amazing 40mm fan

Just staging nothing is screwed down as of yet

Hope this helps but even with that low profile body it looks like you have a good 2-3 inches of space. Here is a picture of with the stock esc.
