Hey gang.
I have a Nero and Talion and I'm looking to upgrade the steering servos in both models.
I've had them for awhile and the existing ADS-15M is slow and week. I've stripped one out and it was replaced under warranty, but I'd like to get something better.
A couple of questions.
The specs show the ADS-15M puts out 195oz-in and 0.16sec/60deg at 6v. When I look at the specs for some of the Savox models I've been eyeing, the speeds don't seem that much higher. For example, the SV-1270TG is 0.13sec (although it does have a lot more torque).
Do these Savox models really help response wise?
Also, has anyone had luck fitting the larger (taller) SA1231SG in either model? Space seems limited, esp on the Nero. I've heard both that yes it does fit and no it doesn't. I don't mind a little modification to get it to work if it's worth it.
Thanks for any suggestions!

I didn't run the ADS-15M in my outcast long enough to know how it was on 6V (the stock esc only allows 6V). I brought the truck home, put packs in it and took it out to my parking lot, drove away from myself and tried to turn around... servo was already dead.

I run the savox 1210sg in it now on 7.4V (max6 esc). It held up for a year on 6V (blx185), then the servo died. One of the mosfets inside fried. I was able to fix it and I'm continuing to use it.

There are a few threads on various servos:

Thanks for that info. Good long read.
Do you think operating the 1210SG @6v (instead of 7.4v) contributed to it dying?

I can't say. I had my EPA's set so it wasn't mechanically limited at full lock on the wheel. Was just driving around at a skate park and about 5 minutes into the run, I couldn't turn one direction anymore.

I run a Savox 2270MG in my son's Kraton, at 6.0v. Strong enough and fast enough.

My Outcast, I run a JX BLS-HV7132MG at 7.4v. Very strong, and twitchy fast.

When I got my first truggie, I polled some local racers and they all said, for truggie, get 300oz-in and .15s or better. A few years experience now seem to back these numbers. Anything slower than .15s, and I really can feel a lack of ability to respond in the car. Around .15 is where I start to feel nicely in control. Up to about .10s, I can feel improvements, but faster than that, I am not good enough to feel a difference while driving.

For what it's worth, I tried this one (DS3225 25KG blue):

It had issues with holding power. Was plenty strong and fast, but in one direction, it would allow movement for a few degrees, then it would hold. I bought it due to running across it in this thread:

Later I had read that this version of it was good (Fan Model FS-25):

Per this thread: https://www.arrmaforum.com/threads/never-buying-a-cheap-no-name-amazon-servo-again.15853/post-205278

I haven't tried one of those yet.

I did get this one (DS3225 25KG red):

@arrmadave I think swears by that servo, so I snagged one. On the bench, it doesn't seem to have the holding issue the blue one had. But I haven't installed it in anything yet.

This was what the stock servo sounded like out of the box. I was moving the wheels by hand:

Here's a video I did comparing the savox 1210sg to the DS3225 blue and red servos as well as a few others. Just fiddling around with a 6V receiver pack:

Thanks guys. This helps alot. I think I'm going to go with a Savox as I'm hoping the brand will stand behind their product. I'm leaning between the Savox SV-1270TG (titanium gears, 0.14, 361) and SV-1272SG (steel gears, 0.13, 319). I think either will fit the bill and should be a drop in replacement.

Hows the JX BLS-HV7132MG servo holding up? Im thinking about picking one up because of the speed

No issues so far, but I don't have a huge amount of run time on it. (less than a dozen runs) For performance, it is good enough I never think about it. Which is about right for a servo, I figure.

0.13/0.16 is more than 20% difference, that's not nothing...

From the 2 savoxes, I'd go with the faster geared one (1272).
