So I got the 4in1 version of this radio, and managed to get it bound and working on an SCX24, no problem.

Now I am trying to setup the included R85C Rx in a Losi Hammer Rey. I setup a new model, selected what I was told to use as the protocol - FrSky D with D8 set as the subtype.

Got the Rx bound in D8 mode.

Nothing. No steering, no throttle, no nothing. I can't calibrate the ESC, because it is getting no input.

Anyone on here use discord and voice? I am trying to get this kit running today before my kid goes home, and this is the last damn thing I need to do. A guy in the EdgeTx duscord spent about 2 hours trying to help me figure this out with absolutely no improvement. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this radio is way out of my paygrade.

Thanks.

Cant walk you through it myself as Iv only bound a few with a 4in1. But any guide for binding ANY opentx/edgetx radio with the 4in1 module might help. There should be a ton of guides relating to the tanaris, pocket radio, ect aimed at drones, but the same procedure applies to the surface radio. Most 4in1 radios in the drone world is from an external module, so where the options are may differ slightly. Some other details like number of channels, type of protocol and packet send frequency are receiver specific, but the process is the same.

You do not want to follow any guide for elrs as they will (for the most part) have a different procedure.

Good luck. The learning curve for that software is steep, but once you get the hang of it, its amazing without peer.

I swapped out the Rx for a FlySky 3 channel. It bound and worked right from the get go. So I think they might have sent me a dud Rx.

This guy binds the r85c on frSky X - LBT(EU)

Picking the right protocol makes a big difference.
I tried that one too. I tried like 4 different protocols that was suggested work with it. Futaba FHSS, D16, D8, FrSky this and that, etc. It binds just fine. That's not the problem. And about 4 times the chick in the radio (😅) said something about the reciever, but I couldn't understand what she was saying. A buddy told me exactly how he bound two R85C's, and neither worked. So its gotta be a bad Rx.

In the end, I pulled the JR connectors, plugged them into the FlySky Rx, powered it up, bound it, powered down and back up and everything worked, 1st try. Swapped back to the R85C - nothing works.

you have to flash your elrs rx and the radio needs the correct LUA script installed to match the firmware of the rx. once they correct firmware it should bind easy. i use elrs on my fpv quads. getting started is a bit hassle but once you do it is so cool cause all firmwares can be installed using wifi.

This was a 4in1 receiver. The bind seemed like it worked fine. Maybe I needed to update it as well?

I dunno. I was in the EdgeTx discord getting help from a guru who couldn't figure out my problem, and after contacting Radiomaster, they told me to try the exact same things that guy did.

Joshua Bardwell is the master for FPV, here are some videos on ELRS and binding, etc. Its the same process for binding ELRS RX for quads and when using ELRS for RC cars related. I have a Typhon that i use for both fpv RCing and regular also Spektrum DX6 Transmitter. i have two RX's on it. when i used it for fpv, i use the ELRS RX cause i can go a mile away or further with ELRS and with my walksnail FPV sytem and goggles. For a little bashing, i us my DX6C radio with the DSMR 6200A RX. my fpv one is on another typhon body as you can see in this photo.

@Esk8erfpvrc OP is not using elrs. Firmware mismatches arnt usually a problem with the 4in1 like in elrs. Binding is not the same with elrs either. If looking at bardwell tutorials, he likes his binding phrase - which is an awesome feature - but not applicable to 4in1 units.

CHECK OUT THESE VIDEOS.
I've been following Joshua off and on since he started posting videos. Pretty smart guy, albeit a bit weird. For example, at 4:50 in this video, Joshua is in full on weirdo mode 🤣

But yeah, he is a wealth of knowledge, and I've learned a lot watching his videos. I have watched his MT12 vids, but didn't even think to watch his other Radiomaster stuff for drones because I got out of drones years ago.

Hes brilliant. Except when he wears that moomoo thing, cant tell if thats brilliant for the heat or just in left field.
Hes got a lipo testing data base too. Most of them don't apply to us, but you can still get a pretty good idea on how brands represent their goods.

Yeah, I saw he wore that skirt thing to one of the events he went to 😅
