Really! Why are speed run bodies so expensive??

Then don't look at 1/5 scale bodies :)

Yeah, they're kinda pricey but I think they scale pretty well (no pun intended). With the JOTA body you have to take into consideration that it includes a three piece rear wing and a front lip/splitter. I guess how unreasonable they are is a matter of opinion but, to my mind, they're a small bit player in the grand scheme of things.

Personally I wouldn't even consider the Corvette or Lamborghini to be speed run bodies. Those are more akin to street basher or track racer bodies imho. Not that the C100, GT-One or 917K bodies are really any cheaper, to be fair. The only one that really ups the ante is the Delta WR speed run body but that one includes wheel wells, side wings, center line wing and a diffusor enclosure.

I just don’t get it and I feel like I will never buy a corvette/lambo body for my lim because of the high cost! It’s unreasonably expensive!

You should take a peek at some of the custom hand-laid Carbon Fiber "Speed Bodies" that LibertyMKiii makes..
Talk about expensive...

LOL. My father would have said it's $2 in plastic. But I'm guessing a mold cost $10K or more?

Aside from the HUGE cost for the mold they still need to run a company, employ people and make sure everyone shipping and selling it gets paid.

Yeah, it's $2 in plastic, but there are lots of other costs.

It's because they sell a fraction of the speed bodies vs basher bodies that makes them so expensive.

Speed body - $10K/200 bodies = $50/body cost for the mold.
Basher body - $10K/1000 bodies = $10/body cost for the mold.

Too bad this one is tiny-ish. I'm not sure what it would fit on maybe a 4-tec?

So TRUE!

Unless you're a Business Owner...
Most consumers aren't thinking about the Whole Costs that goes into "making of a product" ,such as R&D; Design (& Refining) Process; Time SOURCING of proper Materials; Manufacturing/Tooling, Quality Control, Marketing/Distribution, Customer Service...
Let alone having to pay employee(s) salaries, heath insurance, building/office rents, utilities bills etc etc etc.

And all that is BEFORE having to payout any commissions to the middle men and sales reps...

If dropping 80-130 on your car is out of reason then you shouldn't drive 1/7 scale in my opinion. Stick with 1/10 where prices are more reasonable.

The speed side of the hobby is very expensive.

Most molds are well over $100k. They wear out eventually. There are many factors like shipping, manufacturing, labor, materials, utilities, taxes post sale, and retail discount for the LHS. Some of these complicated molds can approach $200k. The JOTA body is complex. The reason why realistic bodies cost more is, increased manufacturing cost, potentially licensing the design. The basher bodies can be made simpler to make them easier to mold.

SCALE 1:8 On-Road
WHEELBASE: 295mm
WIDTH: 260mm

It says 1/8 scale, but it's a small 1/8 scale. Normal 1/8 scale cars have a 325mm wheelbase with a 310mm track width. A 4-tec has a 256mm wheelbase. I found this on Islandhobby nut:

Suitable for 1/8 scale rc cars with a wheelbase of 295 mm and a 260 mm width, this body will fit many 1/8 road cars including Mugen MRX-2, 3, 4, 5 and the Serpent 966 & 977.

They know speed runners are chasing that MPH. Nuff said.
That sounds like it!!
I think bitty 1/7th scale bodies should be 15$ cheaper

I woulda bought them if they were finished!
Exactly!

Oh, my numbers are way off then. Pay the $100 and don't worry about it.

I think all of those cars are gas powered and not something I would enjoy.

The Infraction mega is
WB = 335 - Which means +20mm on each end. Probably be OK.
Width = 257 - Close enough.

This was me holding up the pack at Turn 2 at Sears Point... before it was Sonoma Raceway. .

I think they called the GTIs Fukenbroken? It was something German, did I remember that right?

It was 22 years ago I honestly don't remember who was pushing who. In racing holding up the pack, is still leading. It was a lot of fun, a lot of work and a lot of money, even with sponsors. Raced for a few years, then my racing partner got cancer. He's fine now but it the kaibash on the racing. I instructed for several years after that and other things in life took over.

@vinkarne - Sorry I think we hijacked your thread.
