So I got a Spektrum 160a ESC for a good price, and was looking for a motor. So It seems around 1650kv is around where I need to be if I still want to run a diff.

I ordered the Rocket 4092 1650kv, found out Its too long, so contemplated what to do next.

I figured well I got it already and motor mounts are cheap, so I machined .06" off the motor mount.

Zero rub on the steering.

So now I'm starting to wonder about this setup. On 6s, it will probably rock all day long but on 8s?

That's what I'm not so sure about, it seems like a good match for the ESC, But maybe too close a match without wiggle room for amp draw? Any advice from you 8s guys?

Worse case scenario, I get another motor mount and throw this motor on my Talion or something.

I think you nailed the combo I'm looking for. I was having a really hard time looking up info on 8s and heat in this KV range. From what your saying thats pretty amazing! This really helps me a lot.

Your battery packs were 140 degrees?

Ok. For a minute there i was a bit concerned that you were unaware of a potentially dangerous situation. Your response let's me know that you are. I just didn't want you to not be prepared for what could potentially happen.

Yes 2x4000mih cheap 50c cant handle the amp draw from the tp

Wow, keep safe man 👍🏼 Looks like many risks there but also interesting! That insulation ist for temps (buildings) or water or dielectric?
What should be a safe range for motor and LiPo temps? I got a heat gun last week. Feeling by hand my 4092 was quite hot last time.
Greetings!

Try not to go over 75 degrees Celsius. Lipo's temps should be lower (with hardcase lipo's the temp gun gives lower temp since the heat it 'trapped' inside the hardcase).
I have a temp gun, but never use it anymore. I know now my gearing is well below the limit and during a long time of full throttle and/or summer I switch on cooling fans and allow short cooling breaks with medium throttle or short stops.

OK thank you! Great to know more about that! I thought you make some splashes at the beach :) But salt water and sand may not be a good combo for mechanics and electronics :S :p

I'm not near the beach (unfortunately); live in the South-East of the Netherlands about 10 minutes away from a nice large area with sand dunes. (really close to the Belgian border and also not that far away from the German border. There actually was a German military base in that area as well. It's now an asylum center, but there still are military excercises from time to time, which is a bit strange with the (war) refugees being there:rolleyes:).

OK, is that near the river Maas? Are those dunes from the river? That sand probably is better than beach sand :) I saw one pictures of the Mojave on sand. Looks like fun ☺ I found this dunes near the border and near NATO Bases:

Looks great.
Off-topic:
Not too good that near of asylum and military exercises. This time is totally crazy I would say. I didn´t thought that reasonable humans would go this war-way actually :´(

Looks pretty similar; but it’s a bit further North and not as close to the German border as the area you found 😉.
