Seems like it would be pretty good in the Xmaxx or XRT. I picked it up for the XRT. I don't normally go down the wormhole either, but I'd really like to try out a sensored motor. From what I gather, the motor isn't a monster power upgrade, but power isn't really what I'm interested in.
The Castle “cryo drive” makes a noticeable difference in temps, so you can gear a little higher.

Sensored is definitely a better driving experience. Smooth throttle delivery and automatic motor temp cutoff (which also allows you to gear higher without worry).

Looks like it’s $290 now.
$290 for the Castle mmx 8s plus 1717 @1260kv? Nah, try $261.85. I bought two, I really didn’t want to but need two combos…

What is the cheapest people have seen this Castle 8s combo, including the 1650kv motor version? I think this is about as cheap as I have seen it, I just want to confirm.

I don’t think I’ve seen the 1650kv combo on sale. It’s definitely more popular and is more powerful according to Castle. But the 1260kv is also a great motor on 6S or 8S.

I may have to buy one for cheap when people who bought this sale put the motors in the classifieds 🤣

Would the Max6 combo be more reliable? Seems like the go to system for most of the 6S off road/buggy rigs.

The MMX8S is extremely durable. It is more powerful, runs cooler, and is equally as reliable as a Max6 in my experience. But HW gets the edge in reliability against any other Castle ESCs.
Personally, I have two max6 systems in my 6s exb Kratons. My $399 Outcast 8s EXB roller is coming soon. I’d rather have a max5 but at ~$260 it’s hard to pass up.
While the MMX8S can handle it fine, you may want more motor for a truck that size. That 1260kv is only 4685 in size.

I appreciate it, I kind of figured this would give me a little bit more power than the rtr.

I have a Max4 Combo (which I bought on sale after reading this thread) in a Rovan Raminator, I mean Primal RC, that over powers ~92lbs effortlessly while constantly breaking it. I now have the punch set to one on the Max4 and it still makes me giggle with less parts breakage, I got three runs in before I had to rebuild the diffs after they started clicking!

Was wondering about the 1260kv.. would it be enough for a TRX 8s?🤔 Would there be any real gain over stock? I'd need a new motor mount too. Also, a Max6/5687 1100kv can be had for $260.. tough call.. the MMX8S is clearly a better esc while I feel the 5687 would be the better motor vs the 1717 1260kv 🤷‍♂️🤔
The MMX8S would have a fair amount of overhead (room to grow), whereas the Max6 running a 5687 would be topped out.. some saying it's not enough esc for the 5687? Seems like 2 very specific and narrow application combos to me?

I found one video of a guy who put it in an XRT. I'm giving it a shot. My guess is that it's roughly equivalent from a power perspective, but I am also not a motor guru, I've kept all my motors stock up to this point.

Yeah, why not? Basically getting the motor for about $45 since the esc is around $215. I don't need or even want the data that the Castle stuff offers myself. I like to keep things simple. Let us know how it works out.👍

hahaha, we have one and my toddler is just learning to drive that same car 🤣
We had this car back when my son was a toddler. Man that toy was infuriating.... I hated when my son wanted to play with it, and he would get so frustrated himself just trying to get it to go anywhere. It wouldn't track straight, only turned in reverse - and only one way, and struggled on low pile carpet.

You're reviving my ptsd!

my younger brother had one. the worst car EVER.

View attachment 318942$18.73 amazon....great first car for entering the hobby!
I had bought this exact car for my kids a few years ago. It was a 2 pack, there was a street racer (the one in the photo you posted) and a police car. They were pretty fast on my hardwood floor. Pretty sure they left some dings in my base boards.

They didn't hold up to the abuse and terror my kids put them through though, they hit the trash maybe a year and a half in.

Perhaps the new bright tumble bee would be a better option.
