I have a question for anyone experienced in suspension configurations. I have never understood why there are so many different positions for the shocks to be mounted. All my cars, have at least 6 different positions for the top of the shock to be attached, and at least 2 if not 3 places for the bottom to be attached. So I can lay the shock on an angle, by putting the bottom of it way out toward the wheel. Or stand it more vertical with the bottom of the shock closer to the differential. and depending on the car there are multiple setups in between. Why is this? What advantage or change will I see from having the bottom of the shock further out, opposed to closer to the center of the car?

it's changing the amount of leverage the shock can impart on the suspension and thus the handling character to the ground...

loads of info on the net...but this is a starting point...
