Ok I've read through 4 pages of science papers and I still didn't find a solid answer @__@

So what the consensus guys? Does boiling make rc plastic more bendy? I got a new wing mount coming for my Notorious and am gonna try boiling it before I slap it on if it'll help.
When it fails don’t be afraid to check out www.3d-rc.online. Cheaper then anything else and will last a lot longer.

Short answer is YES.

Long answer is that most RC plastics use polypropylene & carbon-base fibrous components. Boiling will heat up the polypropylene & make it more flexible BUT won't do a thing to the fibrous stuff. The fibrous stuff is what gives the plastic the rigidity & strength to be used in high stress areas like the gearboxes & arms without deforming. I use HDPE for bumpers & wing mount since they need to be way more flexible than rigid. HDPE is just plastic w/o any fibrous stuff.

I think it's alot of if it makes you feel better about it. Do it. If it fails quickly or whatever then change to the opposite. Which works best go that route. I shine my Rock in wd40. No boiling no soaking. I've never broken a stock arm though lol I need to send it harder🤔

Only boiling works. The stock wing mount is junk you need rpm or a 3ad printed one

I love regular wd40 because of how it makes the car clean up nice for a shelf queen... I even admit to using it in the past. There is nothing like it and it's great to displace the water. Spray it then hit it with a 250mph leaf blower and it's clean and dry in seconds.

But for a driver's car I would never ever use it unless it's the silicone specialist formula, then spray away. It just ruins your parts otherwise.

I guarantee your parts with break more often with wd40

Don't you think the manufacturer would spray it on or recommend it be done if it actually helped?

It does make some of the stuff in the plastic more flexible, but the rest of the stuff in there is not more flexible and will facilitate it cracking apart more easily as the materials become less and less similar.

Get RPM parts of you want flexible plastics that bend instead of crack.

The boiling thing came about because RPM recommended to boil their Pure Nylon parts (water for 20 min) to make them more flexible before snapping. More durable. Still can snap at some point however. But definitely feel more flexible.
With the stocker composite Plastics I tried it. Boiling made no difference at all. IMO.
And also tried soaking in WD40 after a boiling. For several days no less. No difference at all. WD40 is just a placebo effect. WD40 seems to be a snake oil, Do it all Life hack.:giggle:
It is cheap and every house has a can of WD40 floating around. Marketed as do it all product, just it does nothing best. Is always around and people reach for it like it is magical. WD40 Co. does make the Specialist line of products. Some are good. But Regular WD40 just a solvent. Can't see how it's good for any plastics. Not any solvent. Keep it away from your BB's. It breaks down the lube, being a solvent and all.
Just do a search on what people claim Regular WD40 will do. You will have a laugh. I have cans of this stuff here for basically cleaning things around the house. It gums up if not removed well after cleaning with it. Don't use it in Lock cylinders. Any real Locksmith will tell you. It's not a Lube either. An RC Urban myth.
WD40 does nothing for plastics . Yet many others follow same and use it anyway, just because the other guy did it..

Hi all, Just my 2 cents. I use Muc Off pretty much all the time, the main reason I went to Muc-off 94 is it smells better :). Both work well.
As I read earlier - I also live in the -30+ (or minus I should say) weather (which sucks now at my age) but it saves parts. yes shafts tend to bend a little easier but hammers and vises fix those in most cases. And as stated by others - never get it on your rubber parts such as tires and o-rings and painted parts etc. They don't play well together. I highly recommend it for bashers and bad drivers. Hope this helps. As for Kevin Talbot, the guy abuses everything, some like him, some don't. What I like about him is that I feel he is pretty honest and up front about what he does which is hard to find these days. As for boiling parts, I tried it and I feel the sprays work much better

WD absolutely works!
It makes the parts shiny and certainly preserves
and nurtures my Makes-car-look-great-RC-ego.
Therefore worth every cent!

I find snake oil works wonders on RC plastics. Second only to a massage of CBD oils and lavender.

A placebo effect.
And for many, if it shines, it must be good..... being the only logic here.
And WD40 stinks horrible. It stinks like Kerosene. Because it is a solvent.
It can serve a purpose. Yet many use it for the wrong reasons.
I used it to un-seize a piston on an old Nitro engine for instance. It messes up your skin badly like most solvents do. It makes rubber brittle.(n) Be careful with that stuff.
Just my opinion. One that many don't agree with . I get it.:giggle:
