Right? I was reading into it last week and they couldn't find any paperwork from the county or the developer stating that a geological survey had been done prior to them starting construction.
 
Not mines just plenty of limestone and influx of people which lowers the groundwater level resulting in washing it out.
Plenty around every major city, one thing to know before purchasing a house in FL. They now separate out 'sink-hole' insurance i.e. you pay more if you want it. Many banks require this as an addition in several areas, not cheap either.
 
Sinkholes aren't very common around here. But the sinkhole isn't the part that bothers me, it's the fact that they built and entire subdivision on top of an old mine. Someone had to have known it was there.
 
You can see the sink hole from the interstate.
