what upgrades other than the pinion gear will increase the speed of these?

A new motor and ESC. There are many people on here that have converted their car to 4s. Mine is 6s.

I hit a bit above 70 on 4s with 20/57 gearing. If you want speed runs there are some good threads where guys took their 3s cars and made them absolute speed demons. Normal bashing it really isn't necessary to change the motor+esc IMO. If you really want a bit more speed when bashing put a 20 tooth pinion on with stock electronics.
