Spektrum Telemetry and Castle 1717

In an attempt to create some integration across all 3 of my trucks and take advantage of the Telemetry Features Spektrum offers I want to raise this question before I plunk down any moula. I bought the DX5 Pro, I have 3 Arrmas, and I want to have the option of swapping the motor out later in my Kraton to the 1717. So my question is:

1) can I run the 1717 with the Spektrum firma ESCs to maintain the telemetry

2) what would be the advantage of putting in the Mamba X ECS with the 1717 and what would I lose in terms of Telemetry to my spektrum (Dx5 pro) radio?


Just trying to map it out further ahead so any decision I make now in purchasing parts don't become obsolete as a result of buying a different part later. I have a love/hate with this system Spektrum has created, love the integration but ten you're locked into their system.

Assuming your ESC has a sensored motor port you could get additional details from the motor fed into the ESC.
Castle's ESC telemetry is in bed with Futaba and I don't believe is compatible with Spektrum radio equipment without some sort of adapter (that I don't think exists)

The fact that some spekturm car radios now work with it is kind of a surprise to us. When we made it they told us it would only work with some of the air radio but they have quietly added support for it to some of their car radios. I'm still not sure which ones specifically,but I've seen it working.

I had the 7PXR, just returned it today. I played with it for over a week to get familiar with the features. My assesment is it's total overkill for what I need (bash mostly) and it's heavy and kind of gets in the way. Between that, the price and the fact it requires basically ripping everything out and starting over for Arrma trucks I opted out of it. The integration across Arrma Trucks is a nice feature IMO, even though their radios are kind of sub par they definitely got the software part right. It's a good hook for Spektrum.

Thank you! This is really great news, now I can get the smoothness and power of a Castle motor but maintain the telemetry features. Thats what you are saying correct? I buy that adapter and it should work? Happy to be the test subject!

Skids929 did you ever end up getting the castle 1717 motor with Spektrum firma ESC AND M and your DX5 Pro and get the telemetry features to work?

Very curious since I am in the same boat right now in so I get the Kraton 6D V5 RTR or EXB and build it out. Kind of like your castle motor and Spektrum ESC and transmitter.

I can totally new to the Arrma world and would be my first Arrma and Spektrum product. So not sure what I am pigeon hiking myself into or not.
