Spool and spur gear setup?

Hey guys below is 2 images… I’m waiting for a carbon tube to arrive so I can make 2 spacers for the centre../ however which setup is the correct way? Or does it not matter?

Whichever way will get the teeth on your pinion as close to the motor mount as possible (probably the 2nd one). You want to minimize the distance between where your gears touch and where your motor bearing is; it’s stiffer.
