Is it normal for the suspension to soften up after a few battery packs ran through it

They can sack a little sometimes. Is your ride height lower now ? If it is, they did. But it shouldn't effect the rate. Just add a little pre load to regain your ride height. If it keeps doing it the wire was not hardened properly.
