So I want to put a bigger fan on my MMX8S and I was thinking of re-taping the holes in the case with fine threads and is wing regular M4 screws.

What's your question?

M4 is too large imo. I did the same but can't remember what size I used. Can let you know tomorrow once I get to the shop though.

EDIT:

I used a 4-40, no issues:

2 reason I was thinking M4 screw. 1. Weight of the fan (it’s heavy) 2. More area so the fan doesn’t rip off the ESC. This is why I’ve been thinking of just running my normal fan setup.the big fan is much heavier that’s why I’m thinking M4. I’m leaning towards the small fan and putting the big fan in my infraction. Might be better there anyway.

If it's an off-road rig I might be thinking the same, but I'd still probably send it and hope for the best. Four screws shouldn't have any problem keeping it secure. I have a 40x40x28 that's pretty heavy too, but they're in on-road cars so no worries there.

Try M3. I think the holes are actually M2.5 from the factory. M4 might be too big cause on one side there’s a cap pack right under where the screw goes. Too big or too long of a screw and you can pierce the cap pack.

So I went with M3 threads and it was a perfect fit. It’s tight enough I’d pickup the whole truck by it (but we won’t do that)😎.
But it does have a great fit.
