I’ll be honest I’m kind of second guessing myself on this one so wanted to run it past you guys!
Building a Typhon road runner, car park bashing not chasing speed numbers so emphasis is on off the line speed and torque!
Stock Typhon is
2050kv on 6S (listed as 80mm motor but in reality measures 74mm)
14/50 gearing for ~50mph
Stock Dboots dia 118mm
Now I’m happy with the stock drive but not blown away so want a little more punch/go
So plan was
TP 4050cm (1900kv) on 6S (82mm)
ESC: Castle MMX
Keep 15/50 gearing to start and adjust from there.
1/5 GRPs dia 118mm
Now on running the above set up gives me a top speed of 50mph and a roll out ratio of 1.24:1
I was told by the TP Power agent the CM’s have better magnets, bearings and more efficient so I thought great a better motor then standard, however the standard 4050 has a max rpm of 60k were as the CM has a max of 80k now given my Kv of 1900 and running 22.2v I max out at 42k so only using half the available rpm range.
Now I’ve always ran around 1700-2000 on 6S and remember when running my MMX and 1515 (2200kv) on my Traxxas a lot of people advised me to lower the kv, yet by TP 4050cm figures they advise 3200kv for 6S use?
Also from a general run time point of view I’ve found 2200kv and up can really start eating into run times.
I know from previous experience the MMX gives a little bit of punch over stock ESC’s but other then that I’ve only up sized the motor a matter of mm’s (8mm from the measurement)
So in the position I feel I’ve made a side step rather then a step forward!
Have considered not using the 4050cm and just ordering a 4060cm but then as above for the 4060cm TP advise on 6S use quite a high kv of 2600kv and the 2080kv which I’m naturally drawn too is rated for 8S.
Opinions please?!
